L.E. Wilson Micrometer Seater Die Top

TIMO

Still working on it???
Silver $$ Contributor
I have a L.E. Wilson chamber type seater die. Was thinking about buying a micrometer adjustable top for it. Of two that I have found online is the Wilson and a Sinclair. Which one is the most precise for what they are, (die add on item). Both are comparable in price so that doesn't matter.

Thanks,
Tim

Why? what makes this better than a wilson? I have not heard of it. quickly researching it I only found dies for the ppc.

Intrested in learning about it.

Its like the difference in a savage and a bat. The savage shoots fine but its not the luxury model. Main thing i like is the actual clicks you can feel while adjusting it. If you turn it 5 clicks you just moved your seating depth .005

it is obvious that you have not ever used one,,,the seater stem must be used from the original seater top,,,if it is a 30 cal seater you use the 30 cal stem with your new micro seater top,,,then that top can be used with other 30 cal dies (308-30-06 etc,,) if you want to use it on a 6mm or some other cal you must remove the 30 cal stem and install the appropriate cal specific stem,,,,,,I try to have one for all the cals that I commonly reload for,,,,I like the Siclair top better because it has more travel (adjustment range) and does not have the lip that over hangs the body of the die,,,the Sinclair has .050" travel per rev on the adj top whereas the Wilson has .025" ,,,,it is easier for my feeble mind to do the math with "50" thou per turn,,,and I like the adj for tension that holds the set points in place on the Sinclair,,,,(the Sinclair costs 5 $$ more ,,,but worth it !!),,,,just my .02 $$....Roger

I have yet to use one, but I have a Wilson in 222, that I wish was 7mm. So, with the correct seater stem and die body, the micrometer top is interchangeable?

YES,,,,it will work with any Wilson seater stem of any cal.....if you change cal then you have to change the stem,,,a 6mm stem would wobble around in a 30 cal hole, hahaha,,,,one poster is talking about a Wilson micro die that has the adj in the die body,,,they cost a small fortune and I see it as a place for runout,,,the replacement micro tops use the factory stem and have no chance of inducing run out,,,,Roger

I have the Wilson. My friend has the Sinclair.
Both serve their purpose.
The clicking into notches of the Sinclair seems better to me than just hash marks.
On the Wilson when i tighten down the stop screw it changes some.

I think three Sinclair is made better. But I'll keep what i bought !

I have the Wilson made Sinclair and really like it. It's adjustments are spot on. I used shims for a few years and now use the Sinclair. Well made and precise.

Good Shooting.
