Mine lasted 20 years, then it started throwing up a heavy burr around the case mouth...ordered a new one that had a TiN coating...it would grab and dig in...got out the old diamond hone...sharpened the old one by hand...cuts great again with no grabbing or digging in during the cutting operation. So I'm still on the orginal cutter. Heard the new cutters tend to be of softer material...don't know about that, but the new TiN cutter was a pain...when it came to cutting...tended to dig in, rather than a gradual reduction of the cartridge case overall length. How often do you replace the cutter?
What is the first thing I should feel or look for?
Like Ray mine is 20+ years old. However still using the orig. cutter. I would think it comes down to how many cases you trim. Tommy McHow often do you replace the cutter?

I am seeing the same thing with a new TiN cutter. I have sort of developed a technique to correct this. Nothing special, I just slowly, gently move the cutter into the brass. It works for the most part. However, I am looking for a different trimmer.Mine lasted 20 years, then it started throwing up a heavy burr around the case mouth...ordered a new one that had a TiN coating...it would grab and dig in...got out the old diamond hone...sharpened the old one by hand...cuts great again with no grabbing or digging in during the cutting operation. I used to shop EBAY when they were going for $25 - $35. I have six now, all set for different cartridges and labledGood to know. Was about to buy another unit with the TiN cutter.
I'll just go with the original one again. My cutter is still spitting out the brass shavings
I hate changing the cutting length.
