L.E. Wilson Case Trimmer Micrometer?

About to order a L.E. Wilson Case Trimmer not sure which model Micrometer head to choose the Sinclair or the L.E. Wilson Micrometer head? They both get good reviews but the Sinclair has some negative reviews which made me question it.

L.E. Wilson Case Trimmer Micrometer?
I just bought the L.E. Wilson Sinclair Trimmer kit and 3 case holders, 300wsm, 30-06 and 7mm -08. I full length size all my cases, but just to bump the shoulder about .0015. The holders were labeled as "new", but the 7mm-08 cases wouldn't fit. I order the holder for "fired" cases for it. The other ones worked fine.
As far as the trimmer goes, it is made very well and the cuts are excellent. However I had an issue with the micrometer not being calibrated very well. The cuts were off by +- .003 or more. There was also issues about repeatably. I would set the micrometer for the length of cut, place the loaded case holder against the stop and lock in the holder. Then I would back off the micrometer then move the micrometer so the stop would just touch the case head. I mean really light contact. The reading would be anywhere up to .005 off. Calibrating per the instructions got me no where. Called tech support at Brownells and he thought it could be a bad micrometer and asked me to send it back for exchange. I hope the next one is spot on. I spent the cash hoping for the cut quality, ease of use and repeatably since I have multiple guns I load for.

Correct me if I am wrong, because I am not sure that I am reading correctly how you are using the trimmer. You are turning the micrometer from its initial setting after trimming a case, then resetting it again for every case in a trimming session?

I would set the micrometer to the desired setting. Place the case holder with the case head against the stop. Then place the shark fin over the case. As a way to test the micrometer i would back it off then move it back to touch the case head, expecting to get the same reading as before with the spindle and thimble. That reading would not repeat.

I am pretty sure what you are doing is not a valid test. How about setting the micrometer, trimming five cases, then measuring the cases and recording the case lengths. Disassemble the trimmer, go crazy with playing with the micrometer for a while, then reference and set your previous setting. Trim five more cases and record the legths. Compare the two group of length measurements. I bet they are identical or nearly so.

Here's an update. I sent the trimmer kit back to Brownells on Thursday. The replacement came today. Kudos to Brownells for the quick turn around. Set it up and ran a test case. It was off by about .003", kinda bummed. It only took 4 minor tweeks to get it dead nuts. Ran 6 cases to test, all the same. Randomly picked a new length, ran the cases, then hit them with calipers. All were spot on! I did this a couple of times and the measured lengths were equal to the trimmer's micrometer setting. I am happier than a pig in ####. Cuts are clean, square and cutting is smoooooth.
