L.E. Wilson case trimmer - Chamfer tool attachement

Actually, I have found that BT bullets are not at all critical as far as chamfer goes. FB on the other hand do better with a more gradual taper, and a wide chamfer. Don't just perch the bullet on the case mouth. Make sure its bases stays within the chamfer. This is especially true with hand made bullets that have significant pressure rings. Taking a little time to get this small detail right pays dividends in concentricity.

Honestly, don't bother.

Stick one of these in a drill or screwdriver, and do this process by hand, and quickly/effortlessly.

Only warning: that SOB is "REAL" sharp, with a ton of carbide flutes, so you can over-cut a piece of brass quickly. Just a dab'll do ya.

That cutter will do up to .30 cal with ease. I just got done with a batch of .30-06.

I use one. I have 2 Wilson case trimmers set up side by each, one with the trimmer cutter and the other with the chamfer cutter. I trim the case then got directly to the chamfer setup while the case is still in the case holder. Works for me.

Ok but what degree chamfer do you use?

What do you use to release the case from the case holder? I usually tap the mouth on a piece of heavy brass bar, but I worry about deformation.

I am loathe to tap my case mouth on anything so I keep a shell holder and small screwdriver at hand. Slip on shell holder and pry case out with the screwdriver between the Wilson case holder and the shell holder. It’s annoying, but easy enough and doesn’t require any contact with the case mouth. Often the shell holder alone gives enough purchase to just pull the case out by hand without using the screwdriver.

Wood block

I was using wood (some scrap I had lying around) and found the chips and splinters that developed would get annoying. I'm thinking maybe a piece of heavy aluminum sheet would be better than brass. I've also got UHMW and nylon sheet, but I'd have to cut that out from a large square piece, which I'm kind of reticent to do for a small block.

Use the end grain on a wood block. I think some may be tapping their cases in the holder way too much, it only needs a very light catch.

I use a single tap (an inch or two of throw - certainly not jamming the case into the holder) to seat the case in. Sometimes take 2 or 3 taps to get it out though. I think I'll start looking for a small block of HDPE - should be hard enough to not deform (as LDPE or nylon - at least the stuff I've got - does.) Not that I trim cases all that often; this is a back-burner problem at best.
