kroil use

I have a Colt Police .22lr that I inherited. It came with some surface rust and some pitting. I bought Kroil to try to clean up the rust. Should I soak the revolver in a kroil wrapped cloth and if so how long. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don`t do pictures but can describe better if need be. Thanks Jeff.

Try wetting #0000 steel wool with the Kroil and polishing it off. Just be sure to keep the steel wool wet. If that doesn't get it, It won't hurt anything to let the Kroil set for any reasonable length of time (hours or days if needed).

I don't have a huge amount of experience removing rust. I have used Kroil quite a bit. For using it to remove leading from a revolver barrel, I would let it soak a few days minimum. I've always heard it will not hurt the gun finish any if you take a copper penny and use it to scrape the rust off. Haven't tried it yet.

I would NOT use 0000 steel wool , it will scratch the Colt bluing. Use a coarse flannel or cotton and Ivehad luck with a wood stick rub in one direction and clean and relube with kroil .Do it Every couple of days and some heat from a propane torch could change the rust color that remains to a darker color . Nothing short of complete refinishing will make it like new but you can get close .
Good luck

I have used aluminum foil and kroil with good results. Not too aggressive!

The only safe scrubber for a blued surface is the Big Frontier 45 pad that is specifically made for the task.

Thanks to you all. I have a Big Frontier pad coming and will give everything a try that was mentioned. I`ll let you all know. I meant y`all. Jeff

Use oil and old 30 cal brass brush. Will not take off blue.
Will remove the rust. It will leave a film of brass on the blue
But will wipe off with a red rag.
