Kimber scope base threads?

I see bases listed with 6-48 or 8-40 threads. Is there a rule as to what gets used where? Seems 8-40 is most common. Rifle is an 84M serial KM29***.
It looks like it'll be 8-40 but I wanted to ask around before ordering mounts. Rifle is not brand new but new to me.

I yanked one out, those are definitely #8 screws.

If they are #8 theyre most likely 8-40. Pachmayer makes a screw assortment and may sell singles

Yep, Kimbers run 8-40 standard on all 84 models.

I believe there was a change to 8-40 at some point. My Montana box is actually has a sticker on it "8-40 TH'D". It's a few years old. Blue rough texture stock, non-threaded barrel.
