My understanding is with the Sportsman you can save less guns/loads, less targets, and it is used while the bullet stays supersonic. If you are shooting where the bullet transitions to subsonic, you want the Elite. Also I don't believe you get custom curves with the Sportsman. You can, however, later update with firmware the Sportsman to the Elite for a fee, if you ever want the full package. I own a 4500AB, this was what I remember when I looked into upgrading.
