Kestrel 4500/shooting computer

I am looking at purchasing a Kestrel 4500NV in the new year so have been checking out their web page to make sure that nothing newer is coming along which might be more suitable.

I read with interest that the 4000 and 4500 models will be available with Blue-tooth for about another $100 shortly.

Straight away I can see that this is a very attractive option but personally I would not know how to set one up so that the information blends with a Ballistic program running on a Laptop/PDA etc.

If anyone gets the software up and running please let us all know, so we can buy a copy.

That got me thinking about the kit I have to carry in the field. I wonder how long it will be before someone brings out one gadget that combines the 4500, GPS, laser range finder and ballistics computer all in one? No I don't want it to turn the turrets for me as well - I have a French maid for that!

Check out the horusvision.com site. There system works fairly good. Basically you cronograph your load and input that info, the BC of your bullet, distance, and the weather from the kestrel into a pda that has their software on it and it calculates the wind drift info and ups according to their reticle design. Cheytac also has a similar system but uses a standard scope reticle and you just turn the knobs and hope you don't lose count. It's still a crap shoot but it will get you closer. My system consistantly shoots low even when I cut the BC in half, and 5 and a half years ago when I put this rig together there was no support from Horus.

I would research my ass off before I spent a bunch of money.
