Kent Lathes

Just want to make sure you realize Kent USA lathes are made in China. They have the same problem that I have with most Chinese lathes (including my Jet) that the compound slide is not wide and low enough leading to marginal stiffness. I did a lot of work on mine and it does fine work now.

I don't have any specific experience with a kent and am going by the photos.

Not saying do or don't buy it, just a few facts. --jerry

One more thought. It makes me skeptical, careful, and erodes my trust when someone selling Chinese lathes names themselves "Kent USA". Sure, they are a US importer but I get the impression that their name is designed to decieve those who don't check deep enough. Not literally a lie but easily misinterpreted. Just my gut feeling. Could be wrong. --Jerry

Don't let the words "made in China" scare you away, James. The Chinese are every bit as capable of producing quality as they are at producing junk. Look at some of the less than stellar products produced right here in the USA. I recall a conversation a few years ago that Jackie Schmidt chimed in on. Many of the medium sized lathes made in China are as capable as any other for gun smithing use.
