Ken Light Cartridge Annealer-Question

TIMO

Still working on it???
Silver $$ Contributor
Just wanted some feed back/info on a Ken Light cartridge annealing machine.
I have an opportunity to purchase used machine. I am sure it is several years old and in great condition with the paperwork. It has 3 cartridge plates/wheels that should cover most of the cartridges that I would anneal. It is ready to go and is priced at $200. This would be my first annealer. Or should I look at something different. I didn't want to tie up a lot of $$$ if it is not worth it.

Thanks,

Tim

I have used one for years and had very good results. All you need to do is set up a process and repeat. If you buy it send me a PM and we can talk.. I think it has a leg up on the bench source for warming and maintaining heat longer.

Mike,
I appreciate it. if I end up with it, I will send you a PM.

I have used a Ken Light annealer for years for everything from 300 Ackley to 20 Vartarg. It is a work horse machine..... maybe not state of the art by today's standards but will definitely get the job done with speed and efficiency.

I have built 1000's of 20 Vartargs from LC brass keeping track of the time for each step of the process. Annealing averaged 1000 cases per hour on the Ken Light.

I would suggest that you use Temilaq to get started. Once you get the feel of it you will be able to adjust the torches on a few sample cases in low light without the Temilaq.

I would buy one of the after market separate regulators in order to avoid continuously adjusting the torches as gas volume is reduced..... something I have yet to do.

TIMO you best buy that machine.....$200 is a steal IMO.... wouldn't consider selling mine for that. It's too valuable as a high production machine.

Rick,
thank you. I have yet to decide, so far everything is positive towards it. It looks like a well made machine and should last a very long time. Didn't see a operable web page for the manufacture, are they still being made?

Tim,

I don't know if they are still in production. I did see a thread somewhere where someone was making 50 caliber wheels. However anyone with a lathe and a mill or mill and rotary table can make them. I have made my own.

I appreciate everyones info & advice. Going to talk to the seller and plan on getting it. I am sure I will be asking more annealing questions in the future.

Thanks,

Back in the early 70's I had the opportunity to buy a Hollywood press with several shell holders for $75. Now I'm always on the look out for one. Don't be me!
