Kelby trigger - opinions

I am building my first custom rifle on a Barnard S action with McMillan A3 stock (I made that decision after getting some good advice from the people wich had first hand experience with that action).

I was set on getting a jewell BR trigger and liked the idea of being able to set it up for target shooting and hunting by replacing the springs.

Then I saw someone mention the kelby trigger : http://www.kelbly.com/triggers.html

Obviously they are a little bias about their product but this trigger sounds good and a pull weight of about 10-16 oz is just what I was looking for.

I have not bin able to find much information about the kelby triggers but there are a lot of top shooters on this forum and I would value their opinion and experience if they have any.

Which trigger do you prefer and why?

The jewell is a fine trigger but there have been problems in the past with breakage in extreme circumstances. The kelbly is new to the market and is gaining acceptance and has an ingenious design. The third is a x-treme shooting products model cg-22 Their phone number is 513-313-3464. I would call them as they are good on the phone with explanation of how upgraded their trigger is over the competition and always anaswer your inquiry with great imfo on every aspect of the design. It is adjustable in more ways than others out there. You wont be disappointed.

I have 2 of the Kelby triggers installed on rifles and never had a minutes problem with either one of them.. Switch from BR weights to hunting weights in a matter of seconds by popping the pin in a different hole...
I also have a lot of Jewells, and would not trade them for a Kelby, but then I won't trade my Kelbys for a Jewells either.....

I have used and installed about every trigger available.

Kelbly Triggers on Kelbly actions are fool proof and excellent.

Barnard makes their own trigger that is simple and works just fine. Why fix something that does not need fixing.

Arnold Jewell makes replacement triggers that are about as good as one can get but with all mechanical devices you can have a challenge from time to time. I buy them for my customers guns and use them personally.

CG Triggers made by Mr. Myers are as good as it gets. They require custom fitting and may require some debugging.

All of these trigger will do the job, all can be effected by powder, dirt, and moisture.

I have a Kelbly trigger sitting on the shelf collecting dust because it was replaced by a X-treme trigger from Tom Myers. Having said that, the only reason for the change is I've grown partial to a 2-stage trigger and the Kelbly is a single stage. Both break like a glass rod and are very tunable. I can't see you going wrong with either of them.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

I have both the Kelbly and Jewell. I really like both of them and can not say i like 1 better than the other. I am going to start another varmint build soon and i will be going with the Kelbly trigger. They are extremely well built and you will not go wrong by purchasing one.

Thanks for all the help and opinions, I guess it is just pick one and don't look back :)

I wanted a Barnard trigger but unfortunately it does not work with the Barnard S action. I bought the S action because I already had a McMillan stock inleted for Remington SA. I do not want a 2 stage trigger I just don't like them, I could probably get used to them but I don't see the need to do it if the single stage triggers are just as good.

After some thought and asking around I have decided to get a Jewell HVR trigger and mainly because you don't have to remove the action from the stock to adjust the trigger. Malcolm from Barnard also told me that you can have a hangar with the Barnard S which is specially set up for the Jewell trigger configuration.

All the pieces are coming together, cant wait to start shooting it in the summer...

But on the other hand it has bin great fun to choose the action, stock, trigger, caliber, barrel and visualise the build. This could turn out to be an expensive addiction :)
