Kelby Action Cock on Close

I just bought a rifle with a Kelby Action. It has a hard cock on close. I have owned others that are much smoother.
Your thoughts?

Terry, the first thing I'd check is the firing pin spring weight....make sure someone hasn't changed it to a 28 or 32 lb spring.

Good shootin'. -Al

Unless you rework the action a Kelbly will need some cock on close to get enough pin fall. I just did one today of recent manufacture and could not get enough pin fall without recutting the cocking cam helix. Any of the ones that have come through here that someone timed by cutting the cocking piece alone have been short on pin fall, hence the reason they were sent in (wont shoot). Sometimes they come in with a lot of cock on close and excessive pin fall. If you had over .250" that would have been the case with yours. Keep the pin fall in the .240-.250 range and you will be good.

Not following how "cocking cam helix "affects firing pin fall? I thought firing pin fall was the difference between when the sear picks up the cocking piece and when the firing pin bottoms in the bolt bore on release? I suppose if the nose of the cocking piece bottoms in the helix before the firing pin bottoms in the bolt maybe?
