Kauger Arms BRIII action

Tim Kauger reached out to me a while back and asked if Id work with him on a BR action. Im always up for bring more options into our game. The basic action was already there, timing was good, and there was enough pin fall for my liking. One of the things I have never liked about interchangeable bolt heads is the pin can rotate and cause drag on the firing pin. So Tim machined a flat on the pin so it can no longer rotate. We also made some other changes in the shroud and firing pin guidance. Lug contact on the ones I have handled has been good so nothing was needed to be addressed there. I really fuss over the ignition system and lug contact in actions I use. I think its becoming more accepted that this stuff really really does matter. The latest revision of the shroud I just received would require nothing from me. Its totally drag free. So overall Im very happy with the finished product and its another option for you guys. And the nice thing is its $1325 with the rail. DSC_0551.JPGDSC_0552.JPGDSC_0553.JPGDSC_0554.JPGDSC_0555.JPG

How does the bolt lift compare with other actions?
The BR III is every bit as smooth as any of the other high dollar actions. Maybe even better when talking straight out of the box because you can get a hanger that times up perfectly to a BnA BR trigger with plenty of pin fall. No work needed to time or smooth anything up. Just crank on a barrel and you’re good.

To put it in perspective, the BAT HR Lapua action is the only other one I’ve personally owned that is also capable of just pinning a BnA trigger and being ready to go with perfect timing. The Kauger is every bit as smooth as my nitrided BAT HR as well.

My 2 cents…I have the very first Benchrest dual port action that Tim Kauger made. I’ve shot it for nearly 3 years now and I would not consider anything else! Believe me-I’v tried them all. I also have 3 other BR2’s that are flawless. Larry Archer was very instrumental in helping develop this action with the Kauger family. We are putting together a BR 3 for next year that I’m looking forward to testing with the changes to compare with the previous models. I could not possibly tell anyone what a Great guy Tim Kauger and his family are. They are extremely supportive of our long range game to go with their great product.
Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
PM me if I can answer any questions you may have

Mike

I wrote to them and asked if they'd do a muzzle loader specific bolt head. Need more of those out there and if they truly want to build something for everyone they'll need to do it :)

Edit: Adam already responded to my questions and opened the door to this. I feed more info his way. I’ll see where this goes.

Pressure handling abilities is something I am interested in. I have some opinions, but I have 2 actions on order, one 17-4 one 4140. I am going to do a direct comparison between them. I have seen actions that handle a lot of pressure and some that dont out of all 3 materials. I think the hardness is as important as the material.

Alex,
Thank you for working with Tim.
I appreciate your expertise, and your willingness to tweak Tim's action to be top tier for BR and disciplines that require the best. I have several Kauger actions, and I am impressed already. this thread just put a smile on my face.
