K&M cutting neck turning madrels

I've purchased the cutting madrels for cases that I size down or up but I'm buying a turner for a factory case and I'm trying to think of a reason not to buy the cutting mandrel and go with the straight non cutting mandrel. I can't think of anything the cutting mandrel would hurt and if I aquire something in 7mm that I'm using brass that that needs to be resized I'm covered for cutting doughnuts out if they form. So , other than cost , is there a reason I'm missing to not buy the cutter mandrel for every turner I buy ?

DaveinJax,

Last time I checked the non-cutting mandrels were steel rather than carbide. So you're ahead of the game if you get the cutting mandrel. I bought most of the steel mandrels at 30 caliber or below when they were the only game in town, I now own duplicates in all calibers except .270. Also, brass build up on the carbide mandrels is lower than the steel mandrels.

K&M carbide cutting mandrel = +1 for lower friction (less heat = more consistent neck thickness.....-1 the cutting edge tends to leave "rifling marks" in the case ID. Some claim they can avoid this with a special technique ...which I never discovered.
Note K&M carbide mandrels are available without the cutting teeth....if your bullet base is well forward of any "donut" formed (as it is in the typical PPC case)...then you can ignore the donut. IMHO there is a night and day difference in results between a carbide mandrel vs. steel.....well worth the extra costs where every last bit of accuracy needs to be wrung out.
