K&M chamfer tool setup

Hey there,

So... every twice in a while I switch back and forth between my Giraud, and doing case prep by hand with the ol' Wilson trimmer, and hand tools for chamfer/deburr operations. I've got most of the usual suspects - the OG Wilson 45 degree chamfer/deburr combo tool, the Sinclair VLD chamfer tool with the helical carbide tip, and the Lyman VLD chamfer tool (that one is screwed into my RCBS Case Prep center).

Not sure if it's nostalgia, or just need a change of pace. Anywho, it's about that time again, so I've been doing the case prep 'by hand' again. I recently picked up a shiny new K&M chamfer tool. On the one hand, I love the centering pin, and the stops and the screw adjustment for them. And holy crap this thing is sharp! I can see why it needs the stops, with as fast as it cuts! On the other hand... it does seem a bit... fiddly... to get set up for a given caliber. It took me a few cases to get the hang of things, and get it set where I want it. I'd hate to have to do that every time I swap between calibers, particularly with my 'match' brass.

For the people who have more time/experience with this tool... any tips for quick setup between calibers, without 'wasting' cases in the process?

I had the old version and didnt like it and sold it. And then recently bought the new one to give it a try. They say .015 to .03 kerf. The angle is slight so it looks like it takes off more than it does. I use for my 6br and wind up with a a good .030 shiny and even ring. I first run the case neck through an anvil to get the inside wall even and round. If not it takes chunks out! You dont have to waste any cases as you can set to no cut and then use the adj screw in handle to push out the cutter blade incrementally.
I dont know if it makes any great diff over conventional method but it does look nicer under a 10x loupe. I wouldnt use it on a case with a short neck like 223.
If I used on diff calibers I would get a tool for each one.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I'd been toying with the idea of once I have it set up the way I want it to take some feeler gages to measure the start distance between the case mouth and the stops to see if I can get a repeatable setup process.
