K-Hornet

I have a T/C 14" 22 K-Hornet that I am working on some load development and would like to use 40-50 gr bullets. Any help in powder selection and good bullets would be appreciated.
If you have any "Secrets" for this caliber I would appreciate that also-dies, primers, prep etc.

Thanx,
Jim

While I don't own the k-hornet I do have the 22 hornet and I would agree with trying lil-gun powder along with the others mentioned. The 35 grain v-max seemed to shoot the best in my rifle. While small pistol primers are generally the norm for the hornets mine liked small rifle primers. I use forster FL dies and partial size. Don't know if any of this info will help ya ...just my 2 cents worth. Let us know what you end up with! :)

Lil Gun works for some, others find it annoying in the K Hornet because of how it behaves in some powder measures. Other powders to try are H110, H4227, IMR4227, 2400, 4198 and Win 296. Our K likes either brand of 4227 and H110.

H4227 is the go to powder for those bullet selections
I know its not what you probably want to hear but I say dump the k hornet while u can and go with the 218 Bee. I loose 1 out of 3 or 4 while fireforming k hornet. the bee simpley has better brass. and slight velocity edge over the k hornet

I would say A1680 all the way. The Hornet and K Hornet love the 40 grain V Max. Much better ballistics than the 34-35 grain versions. If you are loosing cases, anneal them. I have shot many cases 6-7 times. When I loose a case, it's when I screw up with bullet alignment. There are lots of Hornet lovers on Saubier.com.

these were brand new cases I was loosing while fireforming ...do u really think I should have to anneal brand new ones? it was always splitting on the neck and shoulder junction

What brand of brass, and yes if Winchester or Privi. I have never lost a Remington case forming.

I've had the exact opposite. The Remington necks split like crazy, but the Winchesters do great. :-\

after 40 years with the hornet and K-hornet i have yet to split a case till after wearing brass out. that said i do not oversize my cases. i size only that required to correctly seat and hold the bullet. i made my own k-hornet die but have several friends that use manufactured die and by doing sizing correctly they have stopped splitting cases. you do not want to set shoulder back it causes cases to split sooner and wears out the thinner brass. i also clean and taper the lips of the case because if you do not you will ch rush the case.

Next question, that I should have asked first, what is your forming load, and what is your procedure for forming? Mine is 13.0 Lil Gun with any 34-40 grain bullet, almost always 40 grain V-Max and pull the trigger.
