I thought I would share a feel-good story. Some of you already know that I unexpectedly lost my job, due to complications with Government employment restrictions. The Federal shutdown made things even worse, and I had to put my house up for sale, pack everything I own, and plan to move in with my sister in Portland. I was within two weeks of leaving.
Fast forward to now. On the Monday after the shutdown ended, one of the senior researchers in my program discovered what had happened. Within two days, she was able to sort through the Government red tape and put an offer on the table to keep me on board. She fronted two years' wages in order to guarantee the appointment. My former boss was not able to figure this out within the period between Thanksgiving and the shutdown.
I get to keep the job that I love, and I got a significant salary increase. I get to keep my house, and I get to stay on the more conservative side of the state. All of this happened because one person stuck her neck out for me, knowing that I cannot be replaced. Pay it forward, my friends.
