Just bought myself an Ohaus M5 scale

I am kinda old fashioned and like old stuff, I have RCBS 5-0-5 scales the ones that were made in new jersey and I saw the new ones made in mexico and to be put lightly I was not impressed. So I found a mint condition M5.
Yeah I know all the cool kids use electronic scales but I have flourescent lights right above my reloading bench and I dont want to mess with electronic scales and conditioning the power supply.

I am starting to really appreciate old stuff made in US, it is some really good stuff.

Is this the double beam? I don't know my designations.

Itsa funny, I have two 10-10s, had Scott tune one, both made here, original color, not the flat green, so kinda older ones. Couldn't sell one for $110 in the box, near new........still for sale.

Well my check weights came in the mail today and I was pretty upset.
I put in the 20 grain check weight and it was reading about .2 grains higher. Tried 10,40 and 5 grains same story.
I took the smaller weights 0.5 grains 1 grain and 5 grain and 2 grain weights and used the smaller sliding weight and it matched up perfectly.
So the knife edges and agate bearings are fine I think. put some nail polish on top of the large weight that was about .2 off untill it zeroed.
This thing works like a charm now.

Is there anything you can do with regard to the agate to make them better? Can you buy better ones? I have a couple different ones and prefer the 505's.
My newer 10-10 and a 505 don't want to repeat. Thought about sending them to Scott.

Take a look at your base or whever the markings are that say where it is made. If it is made in New Jersey he will work on it, if it is made in Mexico he wont touch it with a 10 foot pole.
And I have no idea about the agate. Dont know squat about scales, just doing what smarter people than me have done here :)
