Just about every time.....

.....I go to the range I find something that a member has left behind. Today it was some pricey aluminum scope caps left on a shooting table. I am at the range at least twice a week and find things like prescription eye ware, binoculars, a Harris bipod, dozens of scope turret covers, etc. Once I found a complete Gracy gunsmith screwdriver set. Even found an empty aluminum gun case (had members name inside it.) How did he remember a rifle with no case?? Our club brings in three dozen new members every other month. With so many things left behind we added a lost and found section to our website.

I added the covers to it just now, hopefully that nice Leupold will get reunited with it's protective parts.

Slow down guys and look around before you head home!

A few years back my brother left his M1 Garand at the range and didn't even think about it until the next day. Of course, he never saw it again. He was shooting 3 different rifles that day and just spaced it out. So it does happen.

Hi Phillip----been a few since I've seen you.

I'm now living in SC but still jerking triggers once in a while.

Hit me with a PM and let me know what's with you.

Was at range one day and a fellow left with an extra pistol! I still wonder if that was an honest mistake or not? Or whether the fellow ever got his pistol back. Did learn you probly shouldnt have a dozen out at once!

I learned many years ago to use the one gun only per trip to the range, not because i may leave one but because more than once i caught myself thinking about the gun i had just finished shooting, or the next one i would be shooting and not giving 100% attention to the one that i was shooting right then. (my groups got better once i started doing this)

I saw a pistol, holster, belt, whatever else a LEO wraps around his waist, left on a peg at a range and he was the instructor! I've found screwdrivers, scope caps, magazines, loaders, boxes of factory ammo, eyeglasses, packs of targets, staple guns, and a rifle. Myself, I lost a staple gun and a knife. Good idea to double check the area before departing.

Due to an guy that thought every piece of brass that hit the ground belonged to him, (and I use Lapua 22-250AI) I no longer go to public ranges. I took advantage of my 20 acres and put in my own. Yes, it was at a cost, but my blood pressure dictated that I do it. If I leave something out there, it will be there when I go back.

With steel shooting all the rage now we are seeing a variety of targets forgotten to be retrieved from the ranges. Very few choose to post lost item notices. We have a few found steel gongs and stands in storage waiting.....

About two years ago a desperate member contacted the BoD of a backpack left on a range. We put up the lost item notice and let it run for two months. With no early results the member wanted more "action" from us to recover it. What could we do? We later found out the pack contained a handgun, Ipad and other personal items. To my knowledge it was never returned to the member. Our club is an hours drive from the city.

Totally agree with this!

About 1978, we held the state trapshoot at our club. When all the campers and shooters left on Sunday, a fairly new Perazzi MX-8 was found in rack on one of the fields. Nobody ever claimed the gun. We determined that whoever it was, shot so bad that he gave up the sport and walked away. I have been in that frame of mind several times, but didn't have the guts to quit!

Not knowledgeable about other states but at the club I shoot in PA, if a firearm is found/left, the instructions are to call the State Police and have them take possession. I presume they will attempt to find the owner and return it.

I always pull the bolt when I'm not shooting a rifle. One day, I took a few with new barrels for break in sessions and load testing. Spent about 6 - 7 hours at the range and most of that time was scrubbing bores.

Later that evening, the gun club sent out an email about a found "gun part". I opened up my cases and sure enough, my 308 was missing the bolt. Couldn't thank the man enough.

You think its bad remembering everything with one shooter. Ive got 13 year old twins, my Dad and Girlfriend all shooting, plus my own stuff. Lots to keep track of! Somehow we are down to one staple gun, used to have three...

But I just got everyone their own range bag so hopefully it gets better

My forgetfulness usually starts "before" I get to the range. I don't know how many times I have had to turn around and go home because I forgot to bring something with me. The only things I have left at the range was a cleaning rod that was sitting right where I left it when I went back and a note book. The note book had my name in it and a member actually found me on facebook to let me know I left it at the range. All in all I believe the people at the range I go to are super honest and would really go out of their way to get what was left behind back to it's rightful owner.

My thanks to everyone that makes the effort needed to return “found” items to their rightful owners! It’s financially, and sometimes emotionally, painful to loose valuable possessions. I love the reaction of those to which I’ve been able to return “lost” items:D...

Just three days ago, a club member left a brand new CZ 457 Varmint MTR sitting in a Plano AirGlide case beside the bench and left. I found another member who had his phone number and a call was placed.
He was surprised and embarrassed he had done that.
If that had been a public range, I doubt seriously if he would ever have seen it again.
I have both members names and numbers now.
