Just a nice traditional wood rifle?

I have a safe full of rifles with fiberglass, Plastic, carbon, and cheap plain looking wood stocks (like what comes on a Marlin 336 or a Ruger mini 14). Even though some of those fiberglass stocks have some pretty paint jobs on them I don't have any pretty wood in the safe.

Not really looking to break the bank on a beautiful custom stock that I would be afraid to take out, but what is a rifle that I could buy that just looks like a nice traditional wood stock rifle? Not really looking at the Mannlicher style.

btw-It needs to shoot good as well.

My CZ 527 carbine has a beautiful walnut stock and shoots quite well, even in 7.62x39.

This is a 284 built on a 1909 Argentine. David Christman{ACGG} did the stock and rust blue. It is a true 5/8-1/2" hunting rifle.
Available for less than the cost of the stock work.

I bought a Austin & Halleck in-line muzzle loader some years back with 3 stocks. Synthetic, and 2 styles of beautiful maple wood. They were made in Provo Utah. Costly but worth owning. I don't know if they are still in business or not.

Probably the most "fun" rifle I have. It's like a .30 cal BB gun, small and light. Good luck finding one though, last one I saw went for $1250 on Gun Broker.

Why don't you build your own, it's not that hard to do. I have a fajen shell maple blank cnc inleted for a Mauser that I will sell you. Extreme piece of wood.

I love my Cooper! Outstanding piece of wood on it and shoots great. For a fee they will use your stick of wood to build a rifle. For even more fees they will add all kinds of goodies, length of pull, inlet sling studs, checkering, barrel contour, ebony for end, grip cap, engraving...

Ok I just found and purchased a CZ527 in 7.62X39 so that will help a little. Still looking around though. My wife disagrees, but you can't have too many nice rifles.

I have a Kimber 84M in .308 with a gorgeous wood stock. It shoots great and with a Leupold M8 4 power, it weighs about 6 lbs. I love it. You can get them for a grand to $1100 if you shop around.

The make a standard Classic walnut and they also make a higher grade walnut stock that costs more, but has much more figure.
