Jumping bullets to make rounds fit in magazine

I have a new barrel on a .300 rum hunting rifle that was throated for 208 amax. In order to make the rounds fit in my magazine I would have to push the bullets down .250 thous.
Has any body ever had luck doing that?
Is there anyway around it?

I checked 168 amax i would have to push them down .150 thous. Its better but still a long way.

Hunting (non-VLD) bullet ogives are more forgiving regarding seating depth. All you can do is try a few and see how they do. If it is a disaster you can set your shoulder back a bit and run a SAAMI reamer in or a body-only reamer in to set your throat length to where you need it. Or single load your rounds. My brother has a Winchester factory rifle that won't shoot unless we seat his bullets .210" off the lands. I have a CZ 527 with .220" jump that shoots great. All Weatherby rifles have a ton of free bore and they seem to shoot well. Try it!

I have an H-S Precision HTR in 308, and it has a 10 round detachable magazine. If I measure the jump using store bought 168g Fed GMM, witch it loves, it has .100" jump from the factory, and it shoots them in one holders at 100. Avg about .250 to .300 for 5 round groups. I can move the bullets out some, maybe .030 and still have them work in the magazine, but the accuracy doesn't improve.
I even moved them in to a .010 jamb, and loaded it single shot, and still no improvement.
So the OAL of the 168g Fed GMM, and book is (2.800 I think) and thats what I seat my bullets too, and I use the 168 GMM bullets.
Some rifle like a big jump, and some dont.
Mike.

Some rifles will like the extra jump and of course some wont. You just have to try it and see. The one big thing you have to pay attention to is where your bearing surface is sitting at in your necks. Make sure ther your not pushing it below or that you have at least 75% of it still in the neck. Another note is that make sure you back your charge down some if you are using the same load. That .250 will change your pressure a bunch!
