Jump, Jam, or Touch in 6BRAI??

I have shot the Dasher in three different barrels since 2009. In these barrels I have shot mostly VLD bullets from Berger, Hillbilly (Moore), Clinch River, Spencer, Easor, and Bart. In almost every case I have found that jumping bullets from .005 to.025 have yielded best results. Perhaps I have failed to test seating them into the lands because of previous results.

Now that I am embarking on a new chambering (6mm BR-AI), I guess that I will start at jam and back off .005 at a time until I find the sweet spot. I plan to use H4895 or Varget and Bart's 105 RBT bullets. What do you think? Thanks and good shooting....James

James, consider picking a well know proven combination of loading components and thread your barrel for a tuner. The Ezell or RAS Tuners are both good choices. Once tuned and you are dialed-in, you just make small adjustments to your tuner and never have to change your load or seating depth again. You can preload your ammo and then just tweak your base tune during the sight in period before a match.

I start at .015 off and go as much as
.050 off.
Seating depth is what I use to lower ES .
But I also tune with a RAS tuner .

With VLD's as you wrote of using, fairly normal for me to find a good seating node between .015 to .030"-OFF. But typically find better/best accuracy between .004 to .015"-IN. Also, betting where ever you were seating at in your 6Dasher with each bullet, will likely be close to optimal positions for the 6BRA as well.
Good Luck

I seat the test round w/the bolt. I never shoot the jammed length, except in a 30BR. The first shots are .005 off jam. Shoot, increasing the depth .005 until the group opens, then go in reverse .001 at a time until you get desired results. LDS

Lots of experience here on what works for them.. I am a firm believer in testing, you should take the time and test from jammed - off and find what actually works best for that given chamber/setup.. Wouldn't you rather just know?
