Many of you dealt with John and knew him as a friend. With a sad heart I thought I should pass it on that John has passed away. He will be missed but I'm sure he's cruising the country roads in heaven looking for critters. Maybe he's with some of his old Jarhead buddies. RIP John, you will be missed.

John joined the Marine Corp in 1958 when he was just 17yrs old. He became a sniper and off to Nam he went. He never talked about it. He was my friend and damn proud to say it!! He was a little ornery and didn't always play by the rules but I never got arrested so I guess it was all good.

We are diminished...

I have a picture of all 84 members of my Ranger Company from my third tour in Danang. Summer of 1971.
The last reunion there were 17 of us left. Only three KIA there, Agent Orange has gotten most of the rest.
I feel your pain, I share it.

I am very saddened to learn of John's passing. I have several boxes of Sierra bullets I got from John in the fall of last year. They'll be extra good prarie dog loads this year.

I went to John's house today. He had left a few things for me. Some powder and bullets he thought I might use. His wife ask me to pull out the dryer as she had dropped some "stuff" behind it. I was more than happy to help her. After that he said she had a story to tell me. I can only believe it to be true.

Before John passed away he and Janice (wife) were talking. He said he wasn't sure if reincarnation was true or not but if it was, he wanted to come back as an eagle. After John's service several were standing on the church steps and a bald eagle flew over the parking lot about 15 feet off the ground. Circled the lot and flew across the street to the cemetery there. At least 10 people saw it to. This is in the middle of Tulsa. No lakes near by. No real reason for an eagle to be in the area. True or not, if gave his wife a feeling that John was in a better place. True or not it is a great story and I believe it really happened.

RIP my friend. You are missed.

John passed away in late February or early March. Needless to say I still miss having him give me a ration of crap. But fast forward to today. I had a tree fall on my house and was out in the back yard watching this guy do acrobats off of tree limbs and a Bald Eagle circles my house. I live in town and been here 13 years and have never seen an eagle especially a bald eagle. Remember me telling John wanted to be reincarnated and come back as an eagle? You think maybe he just flew over checking up on me? I'd kinda like to think so.

I have his .243 Ackley, he had eluded to the fact that’s his health was in decline but I hadn't heard he had passed. May he RIP, sorry for your loss.

Since 1900, no other war's veterans have died at a quicker pace than those who served in Vietnam. I served there in 1971-72 and thank God for every day I have going forward but statistically, the odds don't look favorable for a long life.
