JLK Experience and Success

Longtrain

I recently tried JLK's 308 190 VLD's in my 308 F-T/R rifle. After initial powder weight tests, looking for pressure signs, I loaded them at various degrees at and into the lands. Although accuracy was good, it wasn't sub 1/2 MOA. I then tried jumping them in 10 thous increments out to a 40 thous jump. Magic appeared at a 20 thous jump, groups ran in the low 4's and vertical was very small.

This load was consistent having been shot at 200, 300 and 600 yards.

Powder was Varget and BR2 primers. I haven't seen much on JLK bullets on the forum, so I thought I'd put this out as food for thought.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony, I have also had very good luck with JLK bullets. I shot many 6.5 caliber 140g JLKs through my 6.5x284 before I changed the barrel.

Very high BC also in 6.5 caliber.

What I have been told the JLK's have a secant ogive as compared to Berger's tangent, which may make them more conducive to jumping. :-\

The JLK quality control seems excellent too. I puchased two boxes of the 190's and weighted them all, they were either 190.0 or 190.1 grains, which I thought was amazing. Also the length to the bearing surface was consistent, as I adjusted the seating die, they were just about all the same length, so the jump will be very much the same round to round.

I just ordered another box of 190's and a sampling of the 180's which have a long boat tail. Steve said that most of the F-T/R shooter have moved to the 180's. So, just more testing...never ends.

Thanks,

Tony
