Guys,
I'm in the middle of a build. I need to know if a jewell varmint trigger will hold up. I will be using it alot for field and range use. Thank you for any info.

I have a Jewell HVR set at 4oz. on a Rem. 700 .22-250 A.I. that has been on about five years with no problem. Occassionally, I clean the trigger by squirting Ronson lighter fluid through the trigger to flush any dust or grit. You won't go wrong with a Jewell and yes it holds it's setting.

They will hold up just fine for a lot of years with a bit of maintenance now and then. They will consistently repeat setting more than any other trigger I know of.
Whats not to like.............

Chino69 I have the same rifle & caliber. Trigger is factory but set at 2.5 lbs. How far off the lands did you wind up setting your rounds? Someone told me that sometimes it takes 40-50 for jump.??? I just got mine back after haveing the barrel set back & reamed, will set out to shoot asap. Using 55's w/H380.

My winter projesct will be same rifle - diff cal & w Jewell trigger.

Thanks

LCS,
My particular rifle has a Hart 1-14" light varmint contour with a .250 neck diameter. I shoot 50 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips touching the lands. Bear in mind that this barrel has approx. 1200 rds. through it with some throat erosion. Just to clarify one point; this is the Ackley chambering and not a stock .22-250. I use a stiff load of H380 as well and I'm not near my notes to give you the exact charge but I think it's 43.7gr.,don't quote me or use these numbers without all of the safety precautions, etc.). This charge would be dangerous in a stock .22-250. I've tried different bullet and powder combos. but this one is like a laser death ray; extremely accurate and 4150 ft/s/ fast. It turns rogue crows into a black puff and drops hogs from 200 to 400 yds. routinely. Jewell is at the top of the trigger hill.

PJ,

One bad thing about a Jewel, once you have one, then you will have to have one on ALL you guns. They are the best!

Mark

Is that really a bad thing Mark? Its like my guns are breeding everytime I put them in the safe. I open the door its full again :) I guess I'll have to buy another gunsafe. I have had nothing but good luck with the Jewell Triggers.

I have match triggers from Rock River, Geissele, Jewell, and Anschutz.

Anschutz is in a class of its own. Nothing else even comes close, except maybe a Bleiker or Grunig trigger.

I was reading of the Jewell trigger with its numerous patents
http://www.gun-tests.com/performance/jan97jewell.html

Do the triggers listed here which are european work in a similar way? There not being such a thing as a global patent yet, Jewell's patents may not apply in the EC though US patents would apply to goods imported into the US.

No, the European triggers I mentioned are all true, match grade two stage triggers and work nothing like Jewells. Anschutz has been making triggers long before Jewell came up with one.

Anschutz two stage triggers are supremely controllable down to ounces. I can take up the 2 oz first stage and deliberately bup up against its stop over and over without tripping the 1 oz. second stage. When I do break the second, it is extremely crisp and predictable.

Like I said, the Jewell I have can't compare in feel.

There is a reason why Anschutz triggers dominate international and Olympic position shooting.

Do European shooters dominate international and Olympic position shooting?

How does the price of these Anschutz match triggers compare with Jewell?

Second 22LR we had was Anschutz and it could never compete with any CZ 22LR, but I guess that was a while back and of course these were field grade guns.

Yep.

Jewells are typically $200 to $250. An Anschutz 5018 trigger is $350. It requires a $90 adapter to fit in Winchester and Remington CF rifles.
Here is what one looks like inside:

I have an Anschutz 1411 prone target rifle and a CZ 452 sporter. While the CZ is accurate for a sporter, it cannot match an Anschutz target rifle.

I shot this with Wolf Match Extra ammo and my 1411 from prone, using only a sling and shooting coat for support) with iron sights:
