Jewell Trigger Pull Weight for F/TR

If you consider 2oz-4oz dangerous when dry firing.

Start @ 3-4Lbs & work lower w/ time behind the trigger/rifle.

I have mine at 9 oz. I could go lower but that's the pull weight that works well for me and my style of shooting.

I have a different view from the above, and I do not want to spend the money to change the same component over and over again in a match rifle.

When I built my current F-TR rifle, I selected a Jewell trigger with 1.5 ounces pull weight. I had never used a trigger with that small of a pull weight before but I never considered that using one would be like rocket surgery, as some make it out to be.

This is a MATCH rifle, not a plinking, hunting, SD, TEOTWAWKI, Zombie Apocalypse, battle rifle. I use it from prone on a bipod only and I load ammo in it only when the targets are up and the rifle is aimed directly at the target.

I will point out that you need to develop good trigger discipline with your match rifle but I can't think of anything that would confuse me more than continually changing the pull weight. I guess some people keep increasing or decreasing their powder load also, just to make it more sporting.

Pick a weight and stick with it. I chose the lightest I could get and got used to it very quickly.

If you can't keep a 10-12 oz trigger on target in F class, you're doing it wrong. 2 oz triggers are nice and light, but they take getting used to, and are overkill for F class if you ask me. If you lose just a single point due to touching one off just a hair before you meant to, is it worth it? Not to me.

That said, I know lots of guys who use them for F class. But that might be because it's easy to find them, and triggers in the 6-12 oz range aren't as easy to find? I haven't looked in a while. This is one reason I like Barnard actions - the trigger is great right out of the box and set right where I like it.

I like mine set about 6-7 oz......It's all a matter of personal preference, test different pull weights and see what you prefer.
