Jewel trigger Installation in the FN Rifle

Just got my Jewel trigger for my FN SPR and opened it up to read the instructions. This is suppose to be a drop-in unit according to Sinclair Intl. personel. Now, this thing is talking about grinding on my trigger guard, filing this and that, and that ain't no drop in unit. Does anyone know whether all this is neccesary or not. If so, I'll just turn this thing around and do something different. I ain't grinding on my trigger guard. Any advice would be appreciated. Bill

bill, I recently installed a Jewell on one of my M70s - unless the bottom metal on your FN is quite a bit different than that of a M70, yes, you'll have to do some work on the trigger guard to make the Jewell fit. I have a vertical mill and do my own gunsmithing, so it wasn't a big deal to me, but there was a certain amount of metal removal to be done. I'm glad I had the mill to do the work, but there's no doubt it could be accomplished with files & a Dremel. My M70 is bedded in a surplus H-S Precision Laredo stock, and I also had to file/grind a little of the aluminum bedding block to clear the back of the Jewell trigger.

I didn't mind having to do the work, as I'd gotten into the trigger for $150, and to me, the improvement over the OEM trigger made the work more than worth it - and the factory trigger on my rifle was really very good to begin with, this rifle was made in 1972, and I had the trigger adjusted for 1-1/2lbs.)
