FTR and FPR Competitor- When I Can
PALO ALTO RIFLE AND PISTOL CLUB
JANUARY 4, 2014- MID-RANGE PRONE/F-CLASS MATCH
2014 shooting started as a beautiful winter day with temperatures starting out at 28 degrees, but the skies were mostly clear and 31 folks came out to shoot with us.
Unfortunately, mechanical failures kept 3 competitors from finishing the match.
During the match there were:
6- 200’s shot at the match
A FTR range record tied
The Open match winner winning over 2 others on X count
And a competitor finishing 2nd in FTR by 1 point although he posted 2- 200 strings!
All in all a good day!
On the Prone side 4 competitors took to the line, but Gary Henry was only shooting testing some loads, so did not officially compete. Master Joe Mistretta made a strong showing and took the win with a 586-25X. Nice shooting, Joe.
On the Open side it was a tight race all day with 3 shooters scoring 596’s. Jim Suber shot a 200 on his first string. Marc Olivier and David Deceraux each shot a 200 on their second string and David repeated with a 200 on his third string. But, Jim was able to hold them off for the win on X count, putting up an impressive 46 of them. Marc ended with 38 X’s to take HM Class Winner and David with 23 to take 2nd HM. Marc and David kept it a tight race all day.
By the way, Mrs. Andy Suber was only off the leader pace by 1 at 595-27X. Jim and Mrs. Andy continue to keep that bar set high.
Wes Cummings shot a High Master level 590-22X to take the class win in the Master category. Keep it up, Wes.
FTR turned out to be the one that would have folks talking. Alton Britt came out quick with a 199-8X on his first string. Then, Mickey Brinkman shoots a 200-7X and 200-11X on his 2nd and 3rd strings. Mickey also tied the range record of 200-11X set by Alton’s son C.J. in 2012. But………when the final scores were tallied, Alton held on to beat Mickey by 1 point with a 595-28X to Mickey’s 594-26X to take the overall win. FTR at Palo continues to see some great competition and competitors.
Mickey took the High Master Class win.
The Master/Master Unclassified class had Craig Martin posting a High Master level score of 592-30X to take the class win.
Glenn Padgett came out of the Marksman ranks to win the Expert/Sharpshooter/Marksman class with a 559-13X. Good job, Glenn.
Thanks to all who came out, especially our friends from Mississippi, Florida, Alabama and Texas who make the drive over each month to shoot. It is appreciated.
