Jacob's Plain Gun Club

Any of you guys from North Texas members out there? Just curious about the range setup and cost if you are. The website is pretty confusing.

It's been a year since I've been out there but send Paul McCoy an e-mail, he was very responsive when I was asking him about a match he was having out there.

Pretty cool layout and place...I went as a spectator and did not shoot, I'm just about ready to play that game and will see if they are still having matches.

It's not a bench club, they focus on tactical. I didn't see a bench but that doesn't mean Paul doesn't have any. Sorry, didn't realize what you were asking.

For nice benches, you're looking at Denton County, Terrell rifle and pistol or Arlington Sportsman in the close area. Graham is pretty nice in the a little bit further category.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Wylie, so everything seems to be about an hour away. Denton has people on the waiting list since 2012 I think. Terrell is an option (also about an hour away from me). I just want something with nice benches that's not crowded all the time. I've currently been spending most of my time at Leonard (Top Gun Texas) and it's not bad, but it's expensive. On the plus side, they have a 500 yd range.

Yes, forgot all about Leonard. Not a big fan of that place. If you have nice bench stuff I feel like I'm a fish at an aquarium with everyone watching and staring. Last time I was there I got the whisper of (that's about 10k worth of equipment sitting on his table) that combined with the RO's wearing side arms I just decided it wasn't my crowd.

I'm a member at Terrell and my shooting/running buddy is a member at Denton and HOTSA (another far range with no benches but we carry our own) so we normally have someplace to shoot.

Terrell is nice and if you stay on the 200y range (which I do) rarely will you have anyone else there. If you do it's normally a high-power guy shooting on the other end from the benches. The 100y range does stay pretty busy though.

As far as facilities go....Denton is the nicest by a long shot.

It's a closed to the public club, much like Denton. Main difference is 99% of the time if there isn't an outside match the front gate is closed and visitors can't get in even to look.

There are two shoots this weekend (Sat in Graham 200m 2" clay and Sun at Denton 200y 7/8" poker chips) so I don't be able to go out there this weekend. Shoot me a PM with your cell number and next time I go out to shoot I'll send you a text and I can bring you as a guest.

I hate to say it but I'm glad I left DFW and moved back to a small city.

Shooting was always a hassle when I lived there. You guys listed more ranges than I was familiar with when I lived in Denton, but I only shot pistol then.

Judd,
Thanks for the offer, I'll send over a PM in a bit. I wasn't aware of the shoot in Graham that sounds very interesting. I went to Denton last week for the poker chip match for the first time and had a good time. I'll be there this weekend as well, and will be the only guy there with a stock Savage 6BR. I managed to not be last place last month, but it was closer than I'd like.

Thanks,
Nick
