Jackson Hole Coyote Hunting?

Alright guys; I have a four day layover in Jackson Hole and my co-pilot and I will be bringing out our rifles and camo, where or who can we hunt coyotes while we are there the 14-18th?

Thanks in advance!

In Jackson Hole you're a lot more likely to see a Californian wearing a coyote than a live coyote. :(

Sorry for the hijack. Most folks don't consider Jackson to be part of Wyoming. ;)

Get a land ownership map and hit the BLM land starting in Pinedale. Good hunting!

I used to live about 90 miles South of Jackson, (Big Piney). However, I don't know about coyote hunting around Jackson. There used to be a bunch of them on the elk refuge. I imagine they are still there. But, I doubt you could get in there with a weapon this time of the year. If I was you, I would head South toward Pinedale. Daniel Jct. is about 8 miles from Pinedale. Starting around Bondurant you will start hitting some open areas where I saw many coyotes in the past. However, I'm not sure on access. Don't know if it still is...Past Daniel Jct. headed South to Big Piney, the country will really start to open up. About a mile or two past Daniel used to be all BLM and great for coyote hunting. Honestly, from Big Piney you can hunt North, South and West for coyotes. Lots and lots of open BLM areas. Also, the mud is nasty and you should be driving a 4WD. Oh, as a side note...It will be COLD!! LOL. There is a decent motel in Marbleton, (town next to Big Piney) and they have, (used too anyways) a restaurant attached. Did I mention...It will be COLD. Good luck.

I lived in Jackson and coyote hunted coyotes extensively while I was there. Jackson Hole (the entire valley) is 97% public land that the vast majority of which is tied up in park land or refuge none of which can be hunted for coyote. There is some hunting in those areas via special permit for elk. The national forrest or wilderness areas that can be hunted is more remote and is not accessible this time of year. There won't be any coyotes there if you could get there because they are all at lower elevation trying to find a dead elk. I had a couple of small, but very productive, local deeded ground places that I called on, but for the most part you will have to travel up the Hoback river to the areas that the other gentlemen have referred to. There are no better coyote pelts on earth than those mountain coyotes. It was tough hunting but well worth it financially for a kid that didn't have much of a job back then. Coyotes were worth some pretty good money and I made more money shooting coyotes than I did working for about 3 consecutive winters. Of course that's not hard to do when you hunt coyotes 5 days a week and work 2. :D
