I've got runout- now what

Just received a new concentricity gauge, inside/outside measurer, and my finished shells are showing 0.0025 runout at the highest spot (measured on the bullet as well as on the neck). The inside/outside gauge shows around the same on the few empty shells I measured, and this is in new Lapua 223 brass.

How much is too much for max accuracy, and is it now time to consider outside neck turning?

Viperdoc; If it's still unfired, new brass, it will fireform straight with the first firing in your chamber. Even at that, .0025" is not enough for me to worry about. I would not hesitate to use it in a 1 & 200 yd. score match. I've seen new, unfired other than Lapua brass with .004" to .007" of runout. Now, that's a problem and some of it will never straighten out, after firing.

Frank hit hit on the head about new brass. Remember the new brass is made to fit EVERY chamber in that caliber not just YOUR chamber. Shoot it first then worry about it.

Good shooting, Jim
