See if they allowed Sunday hunting in PA I wouldn't be writing this stuff on this beautiful day.
Well yesterday I when ghogging in great anticipation since the weather was perfect albeit a tad warm and humid. The sun was bright and there was virtually no wind.
Had two farms targeted. Went to the first one early since I didn't anticipate seeing much there if anything because I've pounded pretty hard this season so far but wanted to take a look anyway since they just cut a few day earlier. Sat on a tree line for an hour or so and as expected didn't see anything. Also it wasn't prime time yet, i.e. before 5:00 PM but I wanted to save prime time for the other farm where I had seen three hogs earlier in the week.
Was about to pack up and leave then I saw a large one roll out of the tree line. I slowly sat down on my shooting chair; range the hog at 181 yards, raised the 223 Weatherby Super V and prepared to take a shot. Waited for a broad side shot then sent the 55 Nosler BT. He rolled over. Went to examine - perfect shot, behind the shoulder, monster hog, large female. Headed to the next farm where I know there were at least three. I'm on a roll so I believed!
Got there and was set up by 5:00 PM. I was 210 yards from the tree line where I had see two before and 240 yards from a hole to my right where I had also seen one before. The weather was absolutely perfect. The hay was perfect, about two inches high, lust green - so nice I would have eaten it myself.
Guess what, never saw anything! I know it wasn't another hunter who got them because I'm the only one who has permission on this farm. I didn't expect to see all three but was hopeful but to not see even one! I guess that's why they call it hunting and not target shooting.
