Re: issue with Berger 105 hybrids and N150-NOW I KNOW WHAT A CARBON RING IS

so I was at the range last weekend and was fortunate in that the only person, probably, within a 100 miles who has a bore scope was there. We usually chat every time I see him because he's the only person I've ever spoken too personally who shoots (6mm ppc) competitively. He loads, and switches barrels for fireforming at the bench. His equipment is top notch. I explained my situation to him and asked if he would look at my chamber with his scope. His response was that he couldn't usually see a carbon build up with his Hawkeye and that he hardly ever uses it. He came over to watch me clean my bore but he brought over his Patch Out and Accelerator for me to use. I got out all the powder residue and drying when he observed that there were thin dark streaks on otherwise clean patches. He said "you have carbon" in response to those streaks. "work on eliminating them when you get home".

Well, that's what I did, using C4 and short stroking with a nylon brush. I worked on it for about an hour until there were no dark streaks on the patches I used to dry the bore.

When I shot the rifle today the problem was gone. I'm a happy camper.

This topic is just another reminder to me about my earlier carbon fouling issue.
Glad you got it resolved.

Now, another observation. Since I messed up and fouled my barrel it is now quite prone to carbon fouling. I have to do a campaign on it all the time. Just waiting for a new barrel and fireforming a lot with the old one.

May be an issue of once fouled, always easily fouled.

is there anything that can be done to minimize it. Last weekend I cleaned about every 30-40 shots and always ended with short stroking with a brush. I think I'd read somewhere that keeping the brass as long as you can would tend to keep carbon build up down. True?
