First question... What is the minimum .30 Cal cartridge needed to push the 230gr Match HT Berger's effectively? If your answer is the .300WSM. My next question is... Is it possible to build a switch barrel gun with a Surgeon or Deviant action for a .243 and .300WSM? Is it just as simple as a switching the Barrel, Bolt, and Mag or is there more to it?

You would need 2 bolts and 2 mags for the appropriate cartridge and the recoil lug should be pinned if surgeon uses one.Both barrels need to be fitted using the correct bolt for each cartridge and then you can swap barrels when ever you want using a barrel vise and wrench that goes through the reciver to undo the barrel.There is a fella on here,paul becignal who makes what you need at reasonable prices.

Yes, you need to replace barrel, bolt, and mag. You won't need to take off the stock or scope so it's easily done in the field. Get a barrel vise mounted on a receiver hitch to swap out barrels. A "dirty" way of doing it is to clamp a Davidson barrel vise on the barrel and jam between the back of tire and the ground to loosen barrel, and in front of tire to tighten barrel. You will need an action wrench either way.

Make sure you take good notes on the scope adjustments between the two barrels.

I use a rear entry action wrench and do not need to remove my scope or stock. I just slip off my adjustable cheek piece put the barrel in the vise, which is slipped into the receiver hitch, spin off the barrel and put the other one on.

Is it a hassle? It takes me about 8 minutes from star to finish.

I run BAT actions and have switched bbls during the 6 min sighter period of a 1000 yard match..probably 2 1/2 min.

You just have to know where to crank your scope with the new tube to be sighted in.
