Is this normal?

I have a RCBS manual slide scale balance beam style. I will zero the scales when I start to reload. When I come back the next day to reload again I will have to adjust the scales again to take the scales to zero again. Granted it is not a large adjustment but it happens every time.

Sounds like the scale is dirty. Larry

My guess also.

If the scale is one of the early ones when they transitioned from Ohaus to RCBS it will have agate bearings & all you should have to do is gently blow any accumulated dust away. If it's one of the later ones, I believe they had plastic bearing surfaces & they might have to be replaced.

Has the room temperature changed? Do you use an incandescent desk lamp above the scale?

I believe the scale zero can change between cold and in use when the room temperature might be higher, and especially if there is a heat source (e.g. a light bulb) warming the scale. When you think about it, the metal main beam must expand or contract, however slightly, with temperature change. And that would affect zero, IMO.

If you move your scale and set it up in a different spot every time you use it, you will most likely have to re-zero it a small amount.

^^^^^^^^
I've experienced exactly this with my O Haus 505 also. Temp and possibly humidity can change the zero setting in my world.

That's what happens to mine. I'll check it every so often and it holds true until it's moved ever so slightly and then it needs to be re zeroed.

your not running a tumbler on the same bench ? my scale would change... the adjustment wheel actually turned from the vibration of the tumbler... took a little bit to figure it out... put a mark on the wheel so I know it was in the right spot ... piece of carpet under tumbler helped
