I just want to ask a simple question about an issue I am having with this site and others that recently changed. I realize this is a gun forum but I cant afford to ask anyone else as they want money for any simple answers to any questions. Please pm me so I can ask this offline and thanks to anyone in advance. I wish someone could remotely remove the problemLOL

There is a site called http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ that will help you with anything you need. It is free and you might just find the answer to your question by looking around. About a year ago I had a problem with my laptop, it had some rootkit and back door access installed and really messed it up. They worked with me every day for 2 weeks to get it up and running. Nothing says you can't donate to them after they help you, and I did. I didn't loose any info in the process either.
I would recommend them to any one. It ended up being a lady from the Bahamas with over 15,000 posts that helped me. I found that out when I paypaled her some money.
It was worth every penny.

Great answer,get rid of windows????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Jon PM sent again,

the better software to clean off the junk is

Malwarebyte free version, --go on line , download update then run a full scan - lots of junk comes off

also for CCleaner free version is good to get rid of cookies etc.

other than that Norton.

I just want to thank Joe R for staying on the phone with me for hours and I deep scanned with Microsoft security essentials and it removed a Trojan that has been making me upset for the last few weeks. Joe is a standup guy and I am proud to say he is my friend. Thanks to all that responded.

Jon,
I'm glad I was able to help you remove that Trojan so that you can pursue more interesting things.

Now that you have an excellent antivirus (MSE) to protect your machine, its very unlikely that you'll ever get infected again. And you can't beat the price; free. I've been using it for years and it has saved my bacon several times.

Regards,

Joe

AVG security software is used by many and has a free version.

I use it and I have not had a problem with any virus's.

Is anyone else using AVG? What's your thoughts?

I actually get Norton free from my internet company, but deleted it to use AVG. I found AVG to be much faster.

DEnnis and all others,

running a business with lots of exposure, I found Microsoft Essential very marginal, AVG better, but Norton the best.

I use Norton in conjunction with Malwarebytes -free version - a great virus remover
and C Cleaner free version which is used to get rid of Cookies you pickup while on web pages or searching Google.

the combo of Norton, Malwarebytes and ccleaner has STOPPED ALL INTRUSION INTO MY SYSTEMS.

Bob

I use free version of avast on my personal computers for years, never had issues.
every company I worked for so far used norton for their AV.

I have been using AVG free, and updating to the newest versions as they came out, for over 10 years, and it has done a really good job. There have been a couple of times when I had to do some work of my own, but those have been rare. As far as getting rid of windows goes, I hardly think that that would be a move for someone who is not a little bit of a geek. My quad core runs on Windows 7 and I like it just fine. Mostly I leave it alone, and it leaves me alone.

Boyd, glad to hear your using AVG with no problems as well. I know of 2 computer companies that use AVG for their AV. So I took their advice and did the same.

Malwarebytes and ccleaner has STOPPED ALL INTRUSION INTO MY SYSTEMS

If I install the above programs, well, who else recommends this? I am willing to do anything to keep my computer clean.

Dennis

malwarebytes free version is a constant go to for me as a standard preventative maintenance tool. I download and install on every clients pc onsite, and ask if I can leave it there for future call outs.

You can buy the paid version and have it automatically update, scan and remove 'bugs' for you if you are not a confident operator, the free version does the same none the less but requires the user to manually update the database, scan the system and remove items.

Start your PC in safe mode with network support if you do have trouble, and then run malwarebytes. Other "Anti" programs run in a different mode 32 bit , and so does the spyware which makes the malwarebytes a good little tunnel rat.

There are so many variations to cure some problems, but this is where I start when the I got trouble call comes in.

Was that a PC or a PPC ? ;)

Get rid of windows

Boy Tom,
I'm not impressed. That's a pretty broad statement without knowing any of the facts. That is analogous of throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Jon has a very nice computer that is only one year old, the only thing it needed was a new antivirus. The solution was free and it is running well now. Like the rest of us here all he needed was a little guidance for him solve his problem. Jon learned a few things in the process that will serve him well for years to come. I didn't give him a fish, I thought him how to fish, in the future he won't need my help.

Regards,
Joe

I run Windows7 as a virtual machine on top of Linux so I can have QuickLoad and a couple other apps - I used MalwareBytes to clean up the rootkit on it and am satisfied with its performance cleaning up Windows. Never had any trouble like that with Linux.

I run the free version of MalwareBytes from time to time, just to see if the AVG has missed anything. So far, it has not...at least recently. Another free program that I have running in the background is CCleaner. It has not caused any problems for me so far. You might want to check it out.
