Is there any way to convert a rifle scope to an LER scope?

Is there any way to convert a rifle scope to an Long Eye Relief scope?

Finding a good scope for a revolver is tough. Leupold & Burris are the front runners. I currently have a Burris 3-12 and the eye relief changes anytime you change the power setting. Leupold does not change.

If a scope could be purchased similar to the style like the one shown below, a shooter would then have a great scope. This scope offers a 30 mm tube, exposed adjustable turrets, turret return zero, overall length of 8.75" and a weight of 17 ounces with reticle choices. Compared this to the Leupold at 11.4" in length and 10.9 ounces and Burris is at 10.8" in length and 16 ounces in weight. Leupold & Burris both have 1" tubes, no 30mm or 34mm available. The turrets are covered on both and no choice of reticle.

There is no reason to contact any of the scope companies since they will not discuss it nor would there custom shop discuss it either. They claim there is not enough market for a scope like this.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Maybe try a scout rifle scope? they have long eye relief. Very limited options in pistol scopes.

You might be best served by sticking to pistol scopes - the recoil characteristics of a handgun are very different than a rifle, and scopes designed for the purpose will usually live longer.

I agree with you, and I seem to recall there was somebody offering that service at one point but I never tracked down who or verified.

There is no perfect pistol scope, not for me at least.

The Burris 3-12 looks good on target but in the field I lose vision when light fades. The Leupold 2.5-8 has too much eye relief, but great optics. Scout scopes have too short eye relief, and the one discontinued illuminated Leupold scout scope brings high prices. I've settled on the 2.5-8 Leupold on barrel mounted pistols because the scope is further out there and receiver or frame mounted optics are usually a Leupold 2x or 4x since they have shorter eye relief. The Ruger Hunter models with their barrel mounted optics utilize the 2.5-8 Leupold well.

Rifle scopes tolerate pistol use just fine. Most of the serious specialty pistol guys run rifle scopes, but their guns are heavy and have solid bottom brakes. Not to be tried with a revolver.

While you can't get custom glass, I think Leupold will install a target drop turret on their pistol scopes and you find those on the second hand market occasionally.

My hunting revolver rigs go one of two ways: Trijicon RMR or fixed power Leupold.
