I had a 25 Super Improved built.Basically its a 243 AI opened up for a 25cal bullet.I have had very good accuracy out to 1000yds with it.I shoot 100gr on the low end and 115 on the top.I have never had any pressure problems and the gun has not been a problem child of any sort.Brass life has been excellent with over 10 reloads on some brass.Does anybody else out there have anything like this or are the 25cals a dead horse that nobody wants??

When I started my 25BR I knew there were few custom bullet makers in 25 cal..Even less now..Light weigh 25cal,75-80 gr)are made by several but 100-115 are less..My 25cal was to be a 10 twist but barrel maker sent a 12 twist to my gunsmith and was I suprised when I started shooting the 115gr Berger.I've never seen so many keyholes..Now shoot 95-100gr great groups 200-300yds..One shooter is building a 25 Dasher..He will post what happens...That is all I know about the 25 cal.. I did sell a lot of 25cal 95gr to 25-06 shooters

A lot of them went to a 25/284 shooter also, with a Lilja 1 in 10 that shoots 100 grain BT's into tiny holes.
These 95 grain Bergers should shoot into less than that if all goes well........

I cut my long range teeth with the 25 caliber. It will always have a special place with me.

Shooting 100SMK.

Right now I'm shooting the .25-06 A.I. But I need to get a scope back on it before deer season.

I ordered up some 95 grain stuff, can't wait to try those out.

You might take a look at the bullets being offered by Wildcat Bullets: http://wildcatbullets.homestead.com/

He has 25 cal bullets up to 150 grains. He told me I should be able to stabilize the 130 grain bullet in my 10 twist. I am just starting to play with my 25-06 AI. 100 grain nosler spitzers at 3800 fps and under 1/2 moa out of a savage 25-06 factory barrel that was re-chambered. I haven't tried the 115 bergers, or any bergers through it yet, but I will be soon. I have high hopes.

I know a lot of folks - a couple dozen - that hunt with the 257 Bob or its Ackley Improved brother. IMO, it makes a much better first rifle for a young 'un than a 243 Win, and the improved version is a great long range varmint round. The Improved Bob doesn't give much up to the standard 25-06.

I have killed way over 200 deer in my life and have killed them with about every standard caliber and some wildcats from 22LR to 45-70. It is my opinion that about any 25 cal from 250 savage on up is the best deer killing round that I have ever come across. I use a 25-06 mainly but the 25's just plain kill deer dead in their tracks 90% of the time. I have never had a deer go over 3 jumps after being shot with a 25.

I've recently built a couple of 250 AIs - one on M70 for a friend, the other a SA 700 for myself. Both have 26" Krieger #5 sporter 10-twist bbls. My fireforming loads are with Nosler 85BTs or Speer 87 TNTs, with TAC or A2520 ball powder; vel. with these is around 3200fps, and accuracy is very good. So far, I've fired only a few rounds with JLK 108s at 600yds. to get chrono & preliminary accuracy data - have used RL15, Varget, & N160. Looks like 3000fps is available without running into excess pressure. Next step will be to work with Berger 115s & N160.

LR work with the heavier bullets is more out of curiousity than anything else - I've got LR prone rifles in Dasher, 6x47L, 6.5x55 & AI, and 284W to shoot in competition. But it would appear that the little 250 AI would be a good choice for antelope out to at least 500yds.

Guys, I remember reading a post on this forum earlier this year. Berger's spokesman mentioned plans for a couple of new bullets in .257 cal. The 125 vld and 125 Match Boattail. Hopefully these come out and have a decent B.C.

Guys:

I have my custom Sendero in .25-06...and have found that the 100 gr. SMK's are extremely accurate. This might be a little on the light side for my 1:10 twist Lilja barrel but she's been deadly accurate out to 850 yards plus behind 53.5 gr. of H 4831 SC using a Lapua 30-06 case and Federal 210 primer.

I guess I'll have to check into the heavier Berger's...but I've been wanting a heavier Barnes...either TSX or MRX.

Stil....I'm a believer that the .25 cal. is a true performer!
