Is the 6mmPPC still the benchrest king of the hill?

I really enjoy shooting off benchrest at 100 & 200 yds. I'm not a competitor but I've always been fascinated by the calibers, rifles, reloading, shooting technique & the phenomenal precision benchrest'ers have achieved.

I remember when the .222 Rem was considered the ultimate caliber & dominated the matches. Then Palmisano & Pindell created & the 6mmPPC which they designed all the way down to the flash-hole diameter. This became the rage & for good reason. Shooters found that loading a number of the "standard" 6PPC loads & the cartridge just flat performed - if not, check your equipment! Many declared it the perfect cartridge.

But as of today, talking 100yd group benchrest, has something de-throned the 6mmPPC in popularity?

For at least 100 & 200 yd group and UBR score shooting no other cartridge has de-throned it. And as components and shooters' skill levels improve I don't see it being de-throned for a good long time.

Not to say that there aren't some challengers out there from time to time. But not to the point of de-throning it. JME WD

30BR for score 6mmppc for group. Just my two cents Tommy Mc

Jackie Schmidt had a great write up on this, I think he took a great shooting PPC barrel that shot real small, cut it off re-chambered it to 6BR, it shot good also, but would not agg as small, and aggs win matches! Test was done on a rail gun, and Jackie isn’t to bad behind a trigger !

What is the "pain of shooting a ppc" in comparison to a BR? Because more work needs to be done in initial brass prep? I'm asking because I don't know what you might be referring to and I have a PPC in the works now.
Mainly the million variations getting good dies, forming good brass, a lot of actions wont extract properly, etc. If you get good dies, figure out brass prep and have a ppc action you got no problems.
