Is Lighter Fluid and Naphtha the Same?

I use Naphtha to clean everything including triggers. I know everyone says to use lighter fluid to clean triggers. I buy naphtha in gallon containers. Are they the same?

Off Topic but, remember the days when you would fill your Zippo lighter, put it in your pocket, and burn a big red spot on your thigh?
Them's was the good old days.

Or accidently ignite it with your "back up" lighter. YIPE!! Everything in Terrebonne Parrish was wet and hard to light, 2 lighters please.
Pull up the felt was a good storage place for a tick till next fill too, they didn't run away anymore.

So I think what everyone is saying is that there is not the lubrication factor in naphtha that is found in lighter fluid.

I've never used naphtha as a lube; only a solvent, or thinner. Lighter fluid- the zippo kind, is white gas, I believe, again not a lube, but functions as a solvent.

It used to be the same thing but today a lot of lighter fluids are all over the place with ingredients. I use the products interchangeably!

Watching. This has been beat all over the place. Some say lighter fluid, others naphtha. Some say it lubricates some say it leaves no residue. Now I think I’m hearing “it depends.”

Naptha was originally called VM&P (varnish makers and painters) naptha and is a low boiling point aliphatic hydrocarbon. Differences between different grades are evaporation rate and flash point.

I would use them all interchangeably. Mineral spirits is in the same chemical class but has a higher boiling pt. and flash pt. I would see no problems using any of these as a degreaser, some will just take longer to evaporate. All are very good solvents for grease and oil.
