Is It Really Worth The Price Of Admission?

Looking at a “new” Kowa 883 at a great price. And I am really considering the investment, just wondering if it really worth the investment for one. I am currently using a 82SV. If the 883 is really a step up for my older eyes, then quite possibly I will go ahead and get this scope.

Your feedback will be appreciated

I did not have or ever use a 82SV but did buy the 883. Best optic I ever looked through. They tend to hold value pretty well also.

I just bought an 883 as a step up from my old 82SV. It came in late last week and I've only looked through it in the back yard. It is amazing. The 82SV is a good optics, but the 883, wow.

The reason I bought the 883 is because it has pure fluorite crystal glass. As near as I can tell, Kowa is the only brand that uses pure fluorite crystal glass. They have it in the 883/884 and the new 99 series. I almost bought the 99A until I saw the weight. That and the bulk make it too much for using in position in F-class.

With my 883, I bought the 25-60X eyepiece and the 25X LER eyepiece. I also got the fittted neoprene case to protect it. I bought it from Cameralandny.com and they did a great job.

I'm looking forward to trying it out and comparing at the next 1000-yard match week after next.

My late 60s eyes can really tell the difference between the 82SV and the 883, in terms of CA and resolution. I use a printed photo target for the comparisons.

i have an 82SV with 60 power zoom. i can see 6mm bullet holes at 300 better with a NF br scope on 42x. for me past 300 with the 82SV forget about seeing any bullet holes. ive thought about a more expensive kowa or other spotter and i see there are places that rent them. this is what i would do before i drop 2 or 3K on another spotter.

I did not get the 883 to look for bullet holes, I got it for improved IQ and for dealing with mirage.

just read your original post. i hope the 883 works well for you. i havent been able to see mirage lately - dont know if its my eyes or what. please let us know how it works for you- thanks

The neoprene case is a bit of a challenge. I finally got it on my 883 and it's taking the form nicely.

I have not looked through the 25X LER yet, I just played with the 25-60X. There is a newer one, the TE-80XW. It's a 35X wide angle eyepiece. The Kowa USA site doesn't mention it, but the German site does. It's an interesting one, but I'm going to play with the 25-60 and the 25X LER before looking at that new one.

30 or 35 wide would be great, I like the idea of the 35x for sure

thanks - i hope it works well for you- was gonna sell my 82SV but am keeping it to compare ti others
Spent a few minutes with it this morning, looking at a house about a mile away, with the air hardly moving, I could see some leaves being softly rustled. I could see the pillows of air in the mirage billowing gently against the adjacent home. This was looking at it through a chain link fence that is adjacent to my property. The clouds are in force today, with intermittent rain. I can say that I was quite impressed. Next time I check it, will be at 50 and 100 yards
