Is anyone using the Magneto Speed V3??

Larry,

I've got the new Sporter model with what looks like the same bayonet as the V3. It's a base model, half the price, and can use the XFR kit, which is pretty cool allowing you to load data to your cell-phone or table. Very basic display unit, but I use the XFR. Only dislike is that the bayonet can slide on my tapered barrel (Savage S7), but if I keep an eye on it it doesn't get too far. Simple to loosen and retighten it.

If you don't need all the other stuff, the Sporter is the way to go IMHO.

I use it on my 6ppc.
It has a Velcro pad to hold the mirage shield the bayonet does not slide past it.

Only dislike for the V3 is the price.

A month after I bought mine they came out with the sporter.

Just my luck.

What is the difference in the sporter and the standard model?

The V3 may be a little expensive, but considering ease of use, functions and accuracy, in my humble opinion I think it is worth it.

I've got a V1 and I like it. I have had a bayonet go bad on me, but I ran into a guy on the range that also had one and he let me swap components until I found the bad one. They sell scratch n dent bayonets on the website for $135. I'm still pleased with the ease of use.

During load development I use my CED M2, the bayonet does effect my barrels harmonics, and I do get a slight POI shift up, but after that I only use the V3, I have also shot my V3, and Oehler 35p at the same time, the results were exactly what I expected, about a 6fps difference with matching ES\SD

I have found that using Blue Painters tape (two to three wraps) ahead of the bayonet stops any forward movement. This would really help with tapered barrels but is very effective on my bull barrels. I like the ease of use and only chrono loads after shooting for groups.
