I had the same experience. I had a friend that was a member bring it to the site owner's attention and was promptly registered.

As i remember they have been hit over and over with spambots and spammers.

It seems the member process is now a little more involved and lengthy than previously.

I too remember just signing up and being a member...

I have had the same problem. Signed up 5 or 6 years ago. Can't reply or post also. Have sent many emails to the contact spot but no answers.

I tried to join years ago when I wanted to buy a few items and never received a reply. I sent many emails but no answer also. After a few months I tried to sign up with a new username and received a confirmation email within hours. I can now sign in under two usernames but can only reply or post under the confirmed username.
