Is 30.0 Varget the magic load?

From reading posts here, it seems that 30.0 grains of Varget over any mid-weight to heavy-weight 6mmBR bullet will shoot well. Maybe not the best load for every bullet ... but seems to be a good start point for almost every bullet.

Just how many bullet weights will shoot well using this 30.0 Varget load?

Well, I hate to admit it, but I pulled the 30.3 Varget 105 Amax/ CCI 450 load straight off these pages, and it shot great in my factory Savage 6 BR fast twist.

I haven't shot anything else in it, since the above load shoots so well ).

It must be 'magic'.

I shot 30 grs of Varget with 80 gr Bergers and BR4 primers for my first year [ 07 ] of BR comp. This was in a Savage 112 with an SSS/Douglas 12 twist bbl. Shot 3's and 4's and 5's at 100. A few months back I posted a pic of one of the groups and when I looked at the pic my first thought was that I needed to go up on the powder to get rid of the vertical.

I have a 28' Pac-Nor 8 twist on a Savage target action and it shoots one hole groups at 100 with 30.4 gr of Varget Berger 105 VLD's and CCI 450's.

I've been doing some load work on my new Savage 6br build, using Varget and 87gr vmax for a varmint load.
Since the load window is 29-31gr I guess it's easy to say that 30gr is 'magic'. Mine was close to that, as I have settled on 30.3gr as my charge for this bullet. I have run the ladder a few times testing each charge, and this one was always the tightest. 30.0 and 30.5 were not quite as good but had the same poi,so it works out. All the loads were under 1/2' @ 100, but the 30.3 is 1/4',with a best so far of .172').

The target says 30.5, but it was actually 30.3

I have settled on 30.2 grains of VARGET behind a 105 BT Berger for my fast twist 6mmBR. It seems to be a bit more accurate than the 30.0 grain load.

BTW, seating the 105 BT's out to a .010' jump helped in my gun also.

How big is your window of the amount of powder for your heavy bullets in your 6 BR? With Varget it seems 3 tenth's one way or the other the groups open up @ 200 dramatically.

How is brass life with 30 g of Varget and a 105? Its a full grain over Hodgdon's max for a 107. I went to the range today and that load,.020 off the lands) agged .31 for 4, five shot groups.

What is it about the CCI 450, other than they are the rarest of the bunch, that makes them the most desirable. I have tried to locate some to no avail.

Have had great luck with 30.0 - 30.8 grains of Varget, N135 & H4895 shooting the 75Vmax 80 Bergers & 95 gr BIBS, all with CCI450's out of my 6BR 1-10 twist LILJA. Must be in the right node with the bullet, primer powder combo, this gun doesn't seem to be very sensitive with these combos. 3/8 th inch pretty consistently occassionally smaller but thats the nut behind the gun I AM SURE!
