Iowa f-class and BR

I'm just getting into this crazy sport. Crazy me.

Going to my 1st shoot in 2 weeks up in MN with another newbie (scalian) from Cedar Rapids. I hope to go to a few shoots this year in/around Iowa. I'm from SW of Iowa City. Where in Iowa are you located?

If you're interested in 100-200 BR, Webster City, Ia. has some of the best BR shooting in this part of the country. It's IBS affiated and we shoot mostly Score but at least two Group tournaments per years. They are always two day (Sat/Sun) events so you can come and shoot either or both days.

You'll meet some of the nicest people around there...all will go out of their way to help and explain things to new shooters. There will be shooters there from Iowa, Mn, Wi., Ne. and even a few from Ks.

I'm going up to the Wind clinic/Spring match in Elk River, MN.....just NW of the twin cities.....on the 18th, 19th of May.

I figure that would be a great first time event for me since I've never shot competition before and could definitely use some wind reading instruction/skills before I do shoot a match.

I hope to go to another 3-5 matches somewhere in/around Iowa this year, just not sure where/when. Just looking to get my feet good and wet in this sport this year if nothing else.

At any rate, although I haven't shot a match yet, I'm hooked. Been having a lot of fun figuring out my new gun I built and reloading for it and doing a lot of load testing, etc.

The one thing I wish we had in E/SE Iowa was a 600 yard range to practice on. There is NOTHING within an hour of me that I know of. :-[ A few 100 yard ranges somewhat close to me but nothing longer.
I guess I just live in the wrong place. :'(

The Keokuk Co. Sportsmen's Club near Sigourney is in the process of trying to get some timber cleared so they can get a 300 yard range set up. That will be nice to have once/if it's done. That's only a 25 min drive from me. I talked to a couple members there and once the 300 yard range is done they might think about setting up some competitive shoots. That would be sweet if they get something like that going.

I'm in sw Iowa, have never shot in a comp but would love to. The local DNR is building a range at 3 Mile Lake that goes out to about 600 yards. It isn't anywhere near done yet but the berms are up and you can shoot there.

I am from Davenport area. Milan is my home range, the website is not very well monitored and most of our board and active members are pistol and cowboy shooters. It is not a tech savy bunch. We highpower guys are a small minority. but, we do have a fantastic range with pits at 200, 300 and 600 yds. We run three 600 yd matches a year which have F Class categories, one was last weekend, the Poe 4x600, another 4x600 on Sunday June 2nd and we have a 3x600 October 13.

I am a service rifle shooter and we have a few more matches for service and match rifles as well as monthly CMP stuff. Anyone looking for more info send me a PM.

This is mostly for sling matches in our area, but most anything with a midrange, long range or 4x600 will have an F category.

There is also a range with pits to 600 in Barry IL which might be closer for the shooter looking around keokuk. There is contact info on the 10 state.

Im from Iowa. Theres quite a few ranges within 4-5 hours of Cedar Rapids. Theres a match tomorrow in lacrosse, wi. Lodi is only 2.5 hours from CR. They have matches out to 1000 yards there. Theres also milan, harris mn, redwing mn, eau claire wi, racine wi, st louis, and vanmeter, ia. Glad to have some new shooters from Iowa. Seems theres not too many of us ;D
