IOR Valdada Recon G2 4.8 30x56 MOA

What's the general concensus on these scopes? Looking to possibly trade my S&B PMII 12-50x P4F fine MOA for one. How's the glass, tracking, and overall reliability compared to the S&B?

I do like and prefer the 1/4 MOA clicks, I do prefer the open crosshair with dot xmas tree reticle, and it has a TON of elevation, 150 to be exact of the IOR.

Will be going on my LR 1K trainer 223. Mainly a range/steel rifle, but also see some local PRS/MOA matches, as well as coyote stands.

Any and all information and opinions are welcome!

I have had 4 of those in Mil/Mil. The internal glass is HD Schott and at the objective LD Hoya Japanese glass. It is clear and bright. The Recon G2's have passed all the tracking tests, right on the money. And yes, the room in the elevation is impressive, as well as the center floating center dot. I am a distributor and have sold many of the Recon G2's and the younger brother, the G2 Mini. I can tell you this, the last 2 that I sold, one was an elderly man, he called me and cried on the phone. Said he was so happy that he could finally see out of a scope where he had troubles with all others he tried. The other guy was beside himself, just could not stop praising that particular scope. The only 2 scopes in the Valdada line that are made in Japan are those 2, which happen to be my very favorite. All the others come from Romania. Last story, I sold a G2 Mini to a guy in Elk City. He and 2 buddies were hunting elk in Montana, they had a big bull at extreme range, the guy with the US Optics and the other guy with the Leopold could not count the tines on the bull. They all looked through the G2 mini and easily could count the tines. That one is a great hunting scope and the monster Recon G2 40mm is escellent for ELR. Anyone who wants one of these or any other in the Valdada line, I always let em go under MAP and at dealer cost. Shhhhhh. Hit me up.

The scope you are looking at is one of the best I have ever owned. I can't add a thing to the above post. I traded mine on a gun for another complete gun with another high-end scope on it.....I wish I had kept the Recon.....

Regards
Rick

I bought one last year for a hunting rig. Love the scope, like it so much I would say it is my favorite with the exception of the reticle. Glass is awesome, turrets are possibly the best I have used IMO but the reticle is probably the worst.
Seems there is a fair bit of negativity out there but I sure dont share that experience.

I think that is because of Frank Galli, he tried to pull a fast one on Val, something about a Snipers Hide version of one of the scopes and it got out of hand. Then I believe Frank turn the entire forum against Valdada Optics. I believe this is accurate according to Val.

You wouldn’t be disappointed imo. I have one on my 338L, glass is very clear, turrets are have a great feel and positive clicks, everyone who try’s it loves it. My only negative about Valdada optics is the weight, they are typically heavier and can take up a bit more real estate than other scopes with the same features but that may be a non factor or the mini may solve that.

I don’t understand the negativity towards Val or why Valdada isn’t used more, I’ve had a half dozen Valdada scopes, I have a high option of the product and of a Val for that matter. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised if you tried one.

The weight doesn't bother me any. It's basically the same weight as the S&B 12-50x56 I have.

Valdada lists the Recon G2 5-30X56 at 38 oz and the S&B 12-50x56 lists at 39-40 oz.

Ditto. Couldn’t have said it any better. I use mine out to 1875 yards with great results and enough adjustment for 2000 plus yards with 40 MOA base

Got the Recon G2 5-30x56 mounted on the 6 BRA yesterday. Didn't spend a lot of time with it, but for the limited viewing I did with it, was hard to tell the difference between it and the S&B. One thing I did notice and didn't care for is the floating dot does get pretty big at 25-30x. It doesn't stay super small like the Vortex EBR-7C, or the Leupold PR2 reticle. I will take it out tomorrow and get zeroed and put a few more groups through the 6 BRA.

I don't have the Recon but I currently own 3, two on both of my ELR rig. IOR tracking doesn't take a backseat to any high end scope costing twice as much. The IOR Tactical on my 308 is over 16 years old and still track and hold zero really well. The Spyder on my 375 Cheytac have endured thousands of round of full power load. Time will tell with the Crusader on my 416 VELR.
