IOR Scopes.... or $1200 else where

Guys,
I'm building a 260. Barrel will be done in a month or so. Then out to the stock builder. so I have 3-4 months from now to decide on Optics. Night force seems to be very popular here, but trying to find one that I like in my price range seems to be hard to do,like the look and feel of the NXS, but price of BR). While researching I stumbled across IOR scopes, and was VERY INTREGED. I did a search in this forum but it produced nothing. WHY? Are they no good? I love the design of the 9-36 tactical, and that 35mm tube has me puzzled. Any advice? I found one for $1400 which is just out of my price range, but I was wondering if I should get it, or just wait for a used Night Force to pop up here?

also.... I like the turrets on the IOR as my father will be shooting with me, and he ALWAYS gets confused when you go 1 revolution on turrets why it's not sighted dead on anymore. Any help on those turrets would be helpful too.

IOR makes great scopes for the money, the galss quality is as good,in my oppinion) as Nightforce putting it a stp up on Leupold MK-4's

they often don't have quite as much adjustment as the NF does and they had a run of scopes that had troubles some time back but thats been fixed.

You will be hard pressed to find a better scope for close to their price.

IOR was my first "higher end scope". Just a 2.5-10x but the glass is outstanding. Haven't had any exp.with NF but to be honest I'm so pleased w/ My IOR I don't feel compelled to acquire any. For the record, I've never heard anything negative about NF either. But for what it's worth I doubt you'd regret getting the IOR.

Can some one tell me about the 35mm tubes? Are they true 35mm, and have 35mm internal parts? What bases should I get with them? night force, Badger, Mark 4? I will need a 20 moa picatinny base for a 700 SA.

I'm using a NightForce 20 moa one piece base. I had the IOR 6-24X and yes it has a 35mm tube...the thing is huge. My scope came with factory rings. Great scope...Unbelievable glass...I got rid of mine for finer adjustment and higher magnification.

Good Luck,

Wayne

In the past, I have read that IOR had bad service; may have gotten better. Also the clicks are metric. The Sniper's Hide website has more info with user experience.

I think they sale both MIL and MOA for scopes. I live 5 minutes from SWFA so I decided to take a little trip up there. Went in and saw Christopher JR, and of course he helped me as best he could. There ended up being 2 other that showed up and wanted to spend money that day, so I gave way to them as I am not ready to buy yet. Still trying to figure out if this is the right scope, then I have to figure out how to come up with the money to pay for it. Those things are HUGE!!! Their built like a tank. The only one they had came with low rings, and I assume if I'm building a gun with 1.0 muzzle barrel that I will need high rings even with a 20 MOA Picatinny base. Can anyone confirm this? Or will the IOR 35mm medium rings do?

I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a scope, and would really like to hear from more people that have an IOR. They are about the same price, maybe a little cheaper than Night force. I have heard from a couple of others that say the glass is as good, better, and far better. I know these are made in Romania and not Japan.

With the price difference only being a couple hundred dollars, I want the best set up..... I like the turrets on both, and the "beefiness" of the IOR is interesting.

So if you have an IOR... let me hear from ya!!!!!

U need to go deeper into this website, as there are several other long discussions concerning IOR scopes

I would love to, but everytime I try a search it comes back with nothing. I tried IOR, then IOR Valdata, then Valdata. I tried the search in both in subject line and body of message,i did find 1 single thread of one being sold back in SEPT) i did not even come up with this thread and I have "IOR" in the subject line.

I know i'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I thought i knew how to use a search function????,maybe I don't)

OK.... I finally just went page by page all the way back to about 1 1/2 years worth of posts,WHEW that was a lot of reading as I am easily sidetracked). Only 1 negitive post, and it was more about a particular importer than the scope itself.

I have several IOR scopes. The one I like best is the 3-18x42 tactical with MOA knobs. Also have the 6-24x50 and SH 3-18 custom. All have fuctioned perfectly and have great glass. Have heard that the internals are prone to trouble but haven't seen it. I used to think that the NF was the best bang for the buck but considering the recent price increases I'm now in favor of the IOR. I also own NF, S+B, USO and Leupold so I can make the comparisons. If money is no object then you'd have to go with USO.

Maybe these tips will help:

Second, the name is Valdada not Valdata. Searching on Valdada gets 10 hits. Searching on Valdata gets two hits. One for this thread and a second for a thread where someone else misspelled it.

I knew that.... that was me just not paying attention when I was doing this. see.... I told you I'm not that smart :-)

I think I am going to get one. Now I just have to find the best deal. I have bought many scopes from Chris out there at SWFA, so I think I will try them first. They have always been good to me, and shot me straight with their advice.

I will throw my .02 in.. I bought a 9-36 from an individual that was the prior generation, covered turrets) he got it from SWFA but had not mounted/shot the scope. I put it on my .308 and had a problem with the side focus not holding under recoil.

I called Valdada and they told me to hold on to it for a few more weeks until they got more in stock in case they had to replace it. I sent it when they suggested and in and a couple of weeks later they sent me a new one, latest generation to replace it.

Mine is .25" click not mil. The glass is great, I have a 2001 Nightforce BR 8-32 and it is on par with it. It is big and heavy. They supply 35mm picatinny rings, not weaver). If you got one with the wrong height rings, I bet Valdada would swap you.

Just mounted mine on my new 308,6-24x50mm, 35mm tube) its the third generation, palying with it tonight its brighter and more clear than the couple mk-4's I have to compair it to, doesn't have quiet the resolution in low light that my S&B PM-II does but its about 1/3 the cost !!

For the money its a great scope, I'll be shooting it Wednesday with a fella that has a NF 3.5-15x56mm so I'll have somthing to compair it to.

JD,
Please let me know how it goes. I'm this close, see my fingers) on pulling the trigger on one of these.

Well I went and shot this eveing with the new IOR which is the 3rd gen 6-24x50mm with 35mm tube and second focal plane MP-8 dot. We shot at 300yds untill dark and from start to finish the IOR has a bit more clear picture from edge to edge and was brighter at low light on the same setting as the Nightforce witch was 15x. Seeing bullet holes for a 308 at 300yds was easy and the scope tracked perfectly shooting the box test. We even looked at some pine cones at probably 800-1000yds and the IOR was again ahead of the NF at the same power setting and was even as bright when set a 24x compaired to the NF at 15x !!

for the money I've very happy with the NF and would buy another in a heart beat.

JD.... I'm confused.... Your very happy with the NF and would buy another?????

That was a miss print, i was trying to ward off a sword fight with a 4yr old at the time,

I ment to say happy with the IOR, not NF.

well.... I did it... I ordered the IOR. Not sure if I will get to shoot it in 2008 or not, but I got it anyway. Thanks to JD and Preacher for all your help. I trust your advice, and I'll be looking for my 6br with a BAT action in late 2009, and then start all this fun all over again.
