Intro

Hey guys,

I'm in Dallas area and was recommended this site by fellow on another. Seems to be a ton of good information and I look forward to learning more. Figured it was proper to introduce myself before I jump in.

Most of my shooting is done at my ranch north of Dallas. I do a lot of hog hunting and occasional target shooting. I shoot a lot of .223 and .308. I have a custom varmint setup in 6x47 lapua that I'm planning to sell or rebarrel to get into a creedmoor or .260. It's too slow of a twist barrel (1:14) for what I need and I've decided to stick with factory loads for the time being.

Thanks for the good info. Hopefully I'll have something to contribute at some point.

Not quite at this point. I'll start a thread once I start having questions, I'm sure I'll have lots once I figure out the direction to go with my 6x47. I'm either going to sell, trade or rebarrel it. Just mainly wanted to intro myself before I started posting. Thanks!

Hey MDMorrow,

Welcome to the forum! I think you're on Texas Hunting Forums as well? If so, I've found this place to be light years better in terms of knowledge, and shooting/reloading experience; really good site.

(That 6x47 looks like an awesome little shooter btw)

Take Care,
Mike

Welcome MD...

This is a great place with a great group of guys. The THF is a good place too, but 99% of these guys shoot precision stuff and that forces us to get better at the tuning aspects.

Nice gun BTW.

Call and talk to Johnny (at Stick's, tell him Judd told you to call) and tell him you want the Creedmoor barrel the Rem varmint contour barrel he had on his comp gun prior to getting a bigger one. He shot it one match and it got to hot for what we do and was walking on him. It would be a perfect setup for what you are looking for (I assume)and might save you some money, the first 5 shots were great but as it got hot it would walk vertically.

Good luck!

Thanks Judd! I actually talked to Johnny a couple of days ago. He didn't have any barrels when I spoke to him but pointed me in the direction of a place that had some in stock. If I do rebarrel I think I will probably just got 7mm-08 or .308 due to ammo availability. I intended to start reloading but being as we're having a kid soon, I just don't see how I'll have the time. Plus my wife isn't real keen on a reloading room with a little kid around. That's the only reason I'm ditching the caliber. It's the perfect coyote gun as it sits.

Yessir, I'm also pretty active on THF as well under the same name and as Mike said the info here is much, much better. THF is pretty good for hunting info and entertainment but I think I'll gain a lot of technical knowledge over here. Appreciate the warm welcome guys!

With regard to children and reloading my solution was pretty simple. I replaced the door handle to my reloading room with an exterior door handle that takes a key to unlock.

Unless they kick down the door no one is getting into my reloading room without the key (which I keep on my person). I lock the door religiously every time I leave the room. It is inconvenient but I would rather be inconvenienced than have an incident.
