integrated scope rail, and recoil lug pros/cons

I have been lurking here for some time, and really enjoy the posts. I am looking at building my first custom rig, and am overwhelmed at the choices of custom actions out there.
What pros/cons do you feel there are for an integrated recoil lug, and scope rail system such as the actions offered by Surgeon? Specifically the single shot target action that they offer. Haven't been able to find too many posts about them on this or other sites, besides the 260AI used by a gentleman on this site whos name I can't remember), and was wanting even speculation as to why or why not to consider this action.
Thanks guys,
Mike

Mike,
You might look on Sniper's Hide for some additional information.
I have not seen one yet, but have read several good reports on them. Having the rail built into the receiver gives you one less thing to buy and worry about coming loose, great idea.

They look great and seem to be a great value.

I have a Surgeon "Target" action. For me the pro for the rail is not having to buy one,the cost). They have a 20 minute angle on them for long range shooting. and of course this makes it stiffer and no chance of coming loose. The con is if you want to do something else with the action, it is permanent. The side bolt stop is great imha. The recoil lug is 1/4" thick and being part of the action I don't see any way it could flex. also with it being part of the action you don't have to align the lug with the action when putting on a barrel. hope this helps.

con - it cost more money for the integral recoil lug.,more material and more machining)

The only cons are: they are attached...and you are stuck with one angle on the base...looks like it to me.

If you can live with that, there is no reason not to go this route IMO.

If you shoot from the NRA Prone position, prone, sling supported) you cannot get the scope far enough forward to attain proper eye relief, with intergral scope bases. An extended scope rail must be added. Beyond that, I see no downside. Especially if you can specify the amount of taper.
