Installing take off barrel. Rem 700

Question for my own knowledge. I have an older rem 700 sa reciever and I just bought a nos 223 bolt and a nos recoil lug and a take off 222 barrel. What's the process one would expect a gunsmith to do to get the headspace all set correctly? Or what options should I think about or be aware of? I'm comfortable doing a remage barrel but being a mismatch set of parts is this a bad idea to do? Just wanna have a cheap light weight walk around rifle.

Where was it that I saw lugs for sale of different thicknesses? Been a while. P T & G?

Screw it together. You can rent a set of Go/No Go headspace gages. If it passes the gage test, shoot it.

Given the generous tolerance between the go and no go gages, you might get surprised.

When I used to buy cheap Tupper War Stocked Remington 700’s just to get the actions, I would give the new take off barrels away. A friend had a 40 year old 700 in 308 that the barrel was shot out. We screwd the brand new 243 barrel on it and it fit and headspaced just fine.

But, don’t assume anything. I am simply saying that the odds are pretty good it might fit just fine.
